View the data access history for a Google Analytics account or property

You can use the Account data access history and Property data access history pages in the Admin section to audit when users query data in your Google Analytics properties. This includes properties within your Google Analytics account and data in your Google Ads account accessed from Google Analytics.

These pages contain the following tabs:

  • Data access history: Shows each instance of data access in your property or properties. It includes the access time, access mechanism, user's country location, and user's email address.
  • Last access time: Shows the last time each user with access to your property or properties accessed them, including API usage.

You can use the date picker to select a predefined or custom date range within the last 2 years. The date range is set based on your operating system's time zone.

By default, the report displays data for all users. You can apply filters to narrow your search.

Prerequisites

Viewing the data access history for an Analytics account or property requires the Administrator role.

This feature is available only for Google Analytics 360 properties and for accounts with at least one 360 property.

View data access history

  1. In Admin, under Account or Property, click Account data access history or Property data access history.
  2. The Data access history tab provides detailed information about each instance of data access. Here's a breakdown of the information listed:
    • Access time: The timestamp that the GA user accessed GA reporting data.
    • Accessed property name: The property display name where Google Analytics reporting data was accessed. Most Data Access Reports contain only one property, but if the requested property has a sub-property, Data Access Reports contain accesses to both the source property & sub-property. To learn more, see about sub-properties.
    • Accessor app name: The name of the application that accessed Google Analytics reporting data. You grant third-party apps and services access to see your Google Analytics reporting data. To learn more, see manage connections between your Google Account and third-parties.
    • Access mechanism: The mechanism through which a Google Analytics user accessed Google Analytics reporting data. Possible values include 'Google Analytics User Interface', 'Google Analytics API', 'Firebase', 'Google Ads', and others.
    • User country: The country of the Google Analytics user that accessed Google Analytics reporting data.
    • User email: The email of the Google Analytics user that accessed Google Analytics reporting data. Some integrations allow users to access Google Analytics reporting data through the integration without the user having direct access to the property; in that case, 'userEmail' will return for example 'Google Ads Linked User' depending upon the integration.
    • Data API quota category: The quota category for the Data API request. Possible values include: 'Core', 'Realtime', and 'Funnel'.
    • Data API quota property tokens consumed: The total property quota tokens consumed for Data API requests. Learn more about quota tokens
  1. You can view additional information by clicking the information icon. This includes:
    • User IP: The IP of the Google Analytics user that accessed Google Analytics reporting data.
    • Report type: The type of reporting data that the Google Analytics user accessed. Possible values include 'Reporting', 'Realtime', 'Free form exploration', 'Funnel exploration', and others.
    • Cost data returned: Returns true if cost data was returned in this report. Otherwise, it returns false. Google Analytics users with the 'No Cost Metrics' restriction are unable to see cost metrics. This dimension will always be false while that restriction is active. To learn more, see Access and data-restriction management.
    • Revenue data returned: Returns true if revenue data was returned in this report. Otherwise, this dimension returns false. Google Analytics users with the 'No Revenue Metrics' restriction are unable to see revenue metrics. This dimension will always be false while that restriction is active. To learn more, see Access and data-restriction management.
  1. The Last access time tab shows the last time each user accessed data. It includes:
    • User email: The email of the Google Analytics user that accessed Google Analytics reporting data. Some integrations allow users to access Google Analytics reporting data through the integration without the user having direct access to the property; in that case, 'userEmail' will return for example 'Google Ads Linked User' depending upon the integration.
    • Most recent access time: The most recent access timestamp.
