[UA] Delete an Analytics account [Legacy]

You are viewing a legacy article about Universal Analytics. Learn more about Google Analytics 4 replacing Universal Analytics.
This article is about deleting an account in Universal Analytics. For information about deleting accounts in Google Analytics 4, go to [GA4] Edit / delete accounts, properties, and data streams in Google Analytics.
Important: Your account, and all the properties and views contained in the account, will be permanently deleted within 35 days (monthly data backups are deleted after 84 days). Once deleted, the account is gone, and we are not able to retrieve any historical data or reinstate your reports.

You need the Editor role to move an account to the Trash Can. Moving an account to the Trash Can also moves all component properties and views to the Trash Can. To move an Analytics account to the Trash Can:

  1. Remove the Analytics tracking code from all your web pages or from your app.
  2. Sign in to Google Analytics..
  3. Click Admin.
  4. In the ACCOUNT column, use the menu to select the account you want to delete.
  5. In the ACCOUNT column, click Account Settings.
  6. Click Move to Trash Can.

Everyone with the Administrator role then receives an email notifying them that the account has been marked for deletion.
