Add topics to ad groups

Topic targeting can help you show your ads on multiple websites about a specific subject at the same time. You can combine topic targeting with other content targeting types (for example, placements and keywords), and your ads will target any of the selected content in your ad group to help you reach a broader audience.

How to add topics

Note: The instructions below are part of the new design for the Google Ads user experience. To use the previous design, click the "Appearance" icon, and select Use previous design. If you're using the previous version of Google Ads, review the Quick reference map or use the Search bar in the top navigation panel of Google Ads to find the page you’re searching for.
  1. In your Google Ads account, go to the Views bar at the top.
  2. Click the Views drop down menu and select Display campaigns.
Note: If you prefer to use the navigation panel on the left, click Change view in the top left of your Google Ads account.
  3. Click the Audiences, keywords, and content drop down in the section menu.
  4. Click Content.
  5. In the “Ad group” column, click the ad group you want to edit.
  6. Click the pencil icon Pencil icon / edit icon and select Edit topics.
  7. Select either Targeting (recommended) or Observation.
  8. Optional: In the table, choose specific topics to narrow your targeting.
  9. Click Save.
