In February 2025, Google will update the Cryptocurrencies and related products policy to clarify the scope and requirements for the advertisement of cryptocurrency related business and services.
Beginning February 12, 2025, advertisers offering Cryptocurrency Exchanges targeting South Africa may advertise those products and services when they meet the following requirements and are certified by Google.
South Africa (Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Software Wallets)
Google allows ads promoting cryptocurrency exchanges and cryptocurrency wallets targeting South Africa as long as the advertiser is registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Any other local legal requirements must also be complied with.
Advertisers must also be certified with Google.
South Africa (Hardware Wallets)
Google allows ads promoting hardware wallets that are designed to hold the private keys of cryptocurrencies, NFTs or other crypto-based assets, but do not offer additional services such as purchasing, selling, exchanging or trading assets. Any other local legal requirements must also be complied with.
Advertisers must also be certified with Google.
As a reminder, we expect all advertisers to comply with the local laws for any area that their ads target. This policy will apply globally to all accounts that advertise these financial products. For more details, see About restricted financial products certification.
Violations of this policy will not lead to immediate account suspension without prior warning. A warning will be issued, at least 7 days, before any suspension of your account.
