Can I place sports betting affiliate banners on a page with Adsense Ads? 1 Recommended Answer 6 Replies 6 Upvotes

Would placing an online sports betting banner with my affiliate links on a page serving adsense ads be in violation of adsense policies? My site is an informational blog on using various telecom, banking and government services and has no content related to gambling or sports.

Based on some answers provided in this thread this should be Ok, however this a very old thread and the current policy page on prohibited content (gambling and games) makes no mention of this.

  • Aggregator or affiliate sites that promote online gambling pages
I interpret the above thus: if you have affiliate banners to betting sites on your site, then by definition your site is an affiliate site promoting online gambling, as you made the editorial decision to place affiliate banners and you have a direct financial interest in people clicking on the banners and placing bets (I don't know if you are paid merely for clicks or only if certain conditions are met such as account creation and a minimum bet placed). I'm not entirely sure my interpretation is correct, but let's put it this way: it's not something I would want to find out by experimenting with my AdSense account.

Thanks for your prompt answer.

I agree, it's not something I wanted to experiment with at first and have actually put off this idea on many occasions. However, betting is quite popular in my country to the extent I see adsense ads for this very betting firms and betting tips sites. I was hoping I could get a slice of that pie via affiliation as adsense has been performing quite poorly since the start of the year.

I interpreted the "affiliate sites" to be a site whose content primarily is on gambling such as reviewing betting sites and giving betting tips. It's hard to tell what they exactly mean with such a broad statement

Regarding the banners, certain conditions have to be met to earn a commission and not just the clicks: account creation, a stake is put etc.

Thanks for clarifying that Gracey. I won't be experimenting with this any time soon, not unless I abandon Adsense for that kind of affiliation.

Thanks everyone for their contributions but I'm still a bit confused. Here's my situation...
My site analyses sports tipsters and if they are good enough provides a link that my visitors can click to go to the tipsters page to find out more information. If they consequently sign up to receive the tipsters tips on this other site I make some revenue.
I'm not linking to online betting. But I'm not sure if I'm "promoting" online gambling.
The tipsters page I send visitors to is on what is probably seen as an "aggregator" site - a site which has several tipsters on it. A visitor to it can chose to follow/sign-up to receive any tipsters tips for a fee. But this aggregator site does not "promote" gambling pages and you can't bet from it and there's no links to bookmakers sites or any other site where you can place bets or gamble.
Would this be against TOS?
