Block general categories in AdSense

To prevent ads from certain general categories and subcategories from appearing on your site, block them by updating the 'General categories' settings in your AdSense account. If you filter an ad category through category filtering, it will block ads of all targeting types and formats. You can block general categories at the product level or at the site level.

At the moment, we're only able to support category blocking for a limited set of languages, regardless of the language of the site.

You can block ads from up to 497 categories. You might find that some general categories overlap with some sensitive categories.

Block at the site level

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Blocking controls.
  3. Make sure "Content" is selected.
  4. Under Content, select the domain or subdomain that you want to set the block on.
If your site isn't listed, you can add it using the site management feature.
  5. Click Manage General categories.
  6. On the 'General categories' page, use the controls to allow or block categories. Changes are automatically saved on selection.

Block at the product level

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Blocking controls.
  3. Click your product. For example, click Content for AdSense for content.
  4. Click Manage General categories.
  5. On the 'General categories' page, use the controls to allow or block categories. Changes are automatically saved on selection.
The total percentage of ad impressions shown on your 'General categories' page might be greater than or less than 100% as ads may be classified in multiple categories, or not classified in any category at all.
