Remove a site's host in Privacy & messaging

Applies to publishers who have both an Ad Manager account and an AdSense account

In the Privacy & messaging tool, sites are assigned to a host, which is the Google product associated with the site in Privacy & messaging. Sites are unassigned by default and display a dash ('-') in the 'Host' column on the 'Select your sites' page. When you add a site to a message or edit the site's privacy policy URL, the product that you are currently signed in to will be assigned as the site's host in the Privacy & messaging tool. For example, if you add a site to a new message in AdSense, the assigned host of the site will become AdSense.

If you want to remove a site's host, you can do so from the 'Select your sites' page. However, it is important to remember that if you remove a site's host, the site and its subsites will be removed from all assigned messages and any messages where the site was the only targeted site will be deleted from Privacy & messaging. Messages are associated with the Google product in which they were created, so when the host is removed from a site, messages associated with that host are also removed from the site.

The host assigned to a site only affects message configuration in the Privacy & messaging tool. Other aspects of site management in Ad Manager and AdSense are unaffected by this setting.

View a site's host

Complete the following steps to view the host of a site:

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Privacy & messaging.
  3. Click Manage on one of the message type cards on the Privacy & messaging page.
  4. In the list of messages, click any link in the 'Sites' column to view your list of sites. The assigned host is listed in the 'Host' column. If no host is assigned, a dash ('-') is displayed.

Remove a site's host

Before removing the host of a site, there are some important things you should know:

  • The site and its subsites will be removed from all assigned messages in Privacy & messaging.
  • Any messages that no longer have sites assigned as a result of these changes will be deleted.
  • You can create new messages for unassigned sites in Ad Manager or AdSense. The product that you use to create the message will be assigned as the site's new host.
  • If you edit the privacy policy of an unassigned site, the product that you use to make this change will be assigned as the site's new host.
Changes made to existing messages as a result of removing the host cannot be undone. If you assign the same host to the site later, these messages will not be restored.

Complete the following steps to remove the host of a site:

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Privacy & messaging
  3. Click Manage on one of the message type cards on the Privacy & messaging page.
  4. In the list of messages, click any link in the 'Sites' column to view your list of sites. The assigned host is listed in the 'Host' column. If no host is assigned, a dash ('-') is displayed.
  5. In the 'Host' column, hover over the name of the assigned host and click Remove site host.
  6. Review the 'Removing site host' dialogue box to understand the effects of removing the current host. Click Cancel to go back, or click Next to continue.
  7. If you're sure that you want to remove the host from your site in Privacy & messaging, click Confirm.
