AdMob

You can allocate traffic to custom events just as you would to ad networks, and the custom events will send ads based on ad requests. However, custom events don't call an ad network's SDK for an ad. Instead, they call the custom code in your app.

Complete the following steps to create a custom event.

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click the Monetize tab.
  3. Under All apps on the left-hand side, select the app you want to update.
  4. Click the link in the Mediation column to the right of the ad unit you want to modify.
  5. Click + New ad network.
  6. Click + Custom event.
  7. Provide the following details:
    • Class Name: Enter the name of the custom event class that you will implement in your app code.
    • Label: Enter the name for the custom event. This is used in reporting and cannot be changed later.
    • Parameter (optional): Enter a string you'd like to pass to your custom event when it receives an ad request.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. Follow the instructions for iOS or for Android to implement a custom event class in your app.
  10. Allocate traffic by entering an eCPM value for the custom event. Your allocation options are the same as they are for ad networks.
  11. Click Save.

AdMob Beta

You can allocate traffic to custom events just as you would to ad networks, and the custom events will fill ad requests from your users. However, custom events don't call an ad network's SDK for an ad. Instead, they call custom code in your app. You name the event and define the classes and parameters in your app code, then map them to the custom event and ad units in a mediation group.

Complete the following steps to create a new custom event:

  1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
  2. Click Mediation in the sidebar.
  3. Click the name of the mediation group.
  4. Click Add custom event in the ad sources table.
  5. Enter a descriptive label for the event.
  6. Enter a manual eCPM to use for this custom event. The eCPM will be used to dynamically position the event in the mediation chain where it will compete with other ad sources to fill ad requests.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Enter a class name (required) and a parameter (optional) for each ad unit.
  9. Click Done.
  10. Click Save. The mediation group will be saved.
  11. If you haven't already implemented the custom event in your app's code, do so now using the same name, classes, and parameters you used to create it in AdMob.

Don't forget to use the Google Developers guide to implement your custom events in your app. If you don't complete this step, your custom events won't be able to fill incoming ad requests.
