Report on performance

Programmatic Guaranteed and Preferred Deals has moved to net revenue in reporting

Ad Manager reporting previously displayed gross revenue data for Programmatic Guaranteed and Preferred Deals. As of April 1, 2021, this revenue is reported net of Ad Manager fees, bringing Programmatic Guaranteed and Preferred Deals into alignment with all other transaction types.

Revenue is now reported in net for date ranges starting on or after April 1, 2021. Temporary gross revenue metrics will continue to be available in reporting or the API. All historical revenue data prior to April 1, 2021 will remain in gross.

Net revenue, like gross revenue, is an estimate that is subject to change when your earnings are verified for accuracy at the end of every month.

Reporting on revenue

When you report on revenue, the type of revenue data displayed depends on the dates of the report.

  • Reports that span dates before and after April 1, 2021 display a mix of gross and net revenue.
  • Gross revenue is reported for all dates before April 1, 2021.
  • Net revenue is reported for all dates after April 1, 2021.
For more information and examples of how this change appears in Ad Manager reports, review the net/gross reporting use case examples for Programmatic Guaranteed and Preferred Deals (PDF, English)

Temporary gross revenue metrics

To help manage this transition, we introduced a set of temporary metrics in both Ad Manager reporting and the API to allow you to continue reporting on gross revenue to facilitate historical comparisons:

  • Ad server CPM and CPC revenue (gross) (Deprecated)
  • Ad server CPM, CPC, CPD, and vCPM revenue (gross) (Deprecated)

These metrics will remain in the Ad Manager user interface and the API until April 2022.

Updated net revenue metrics

The following metrics now display net revenue in Ad Manager reports:

  • Total CPM and CPC revenue
Total amount of CPM and CPC revenue based on the number of units served by the Google Ad Manager server, AdSense, Ad Exchange, and third-party Mediation networks.
  • Total CPM, CPC, CPD, and vCPM revenue
Total amount of CPM, CPC, CPD and vCPM revenue based on the number of units served by the Google Ad Manager server, AdSense, Ad Exchange, and third-party Mediation networks.
  • Total average eCPM
eCPM averaged across the Google Ad Manager server, AdSense, Ad Exchange, and third-party Mediation networks.
  • Ad server average eCPM
Average effective cost-per-thousand-impressions earned from the ads delivered by the Google Ad Manager server.

Formula: [(Ad server CPM + CPC + CPD + vCPM revenue)/Ad server impressions] x 1000

If the 'Ad server CPD revenue' metric is disabled under the "Ad server" metrics family, the CPD value is excluded from the average eCPM computation. For example, using the Key-values dimension makes the 'Ad server CPD revenue' unavailable, therefore eliminating the CPD value from your report.
  • Ad server CPM and CPC revenue
CPM and CPC revenue earned, calculated in your network's currency, for the ads delivered by the Google Ad Manager server. Sum of all booked revenue.
  • Ad server CPM, CPC, CPD, and vCPM revenue
CPM, CPC, CPD, and vCPM revenue earned, calculated in your network's currency, for the ads delivered by the Google Ad Manager server.
