Learn about inventory exclusion rules under Protections
Note: In this article, Open Auction refers to Open Auction bids from Authorized Buyers and Google Demand. Inventory exclusions apply only to the Open Auction transaction type.
Inventory exclusions indicate what inventory to exclude from the Open Auction. Inventory exclusion rules allow you to exclude inventory types or targeting values.
Create an inventory exclusion
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Protections, and then Protections.
- Click New protection, and then Inventory exclusion.
- Under "Settings":
- Enter a name for the protection.
- Click the "Excluded inventory type" menu and select the type of inventory you want to exclude from the display of Open Auction ads.
- To apply your inventory exclusion to a demand source, select a demand source, such as "Header bidding."
- Under "Exclusion settings," select the inventory you want to exclude. The default is to block Open Auction ads from all inventory.

Targeting values
The targeting values included in an inventory exclusion rule are blocked from the Open Auction. If no targeting values are included in the targeting picker, then all inventory is blocked from the Open Auction.
- Add targeting values to the targeting picker to ensure you're not excluding all inventory from the Open Auction.
- If you want to include all inventory in the Open Auction, simply don't add any inventory exclusion rules.
- Select Exclude targeted inventory.
- Click a category, such as "Device category," and review the listed menu items.
- To block Open Auction ads for an item, such as "Desktop," click Include

- To allow Open Auction ads for an item, click Exclude
.
- Click Save.
