Get your first ads up and running

Tag your pages with GPT

Now that you've created your first ad unit, it’s time to start serving ads. To do so, you'll need to insert the Google Publisher Tags (GPT) on your webpage to request and display ads from Ad Manager.

Google Publisher Tag (GPT) is a snippet of code you add to your webpage to request an ad from Ad Manager. GPT sends browser, location, and other anonymous information about the user as well as targeting you define such as ad units or key-values.

Generate your ad tags

Generate a Google Publisher Tag in Ad Manager and work with your development team to insert the tags into your content.

A few things to remember:

  • We recommend enabling single-request mode for your tags, which can enhance ad and page performance, and enables functionality like creative roadblocking
  • It can take up to 30 minutes after tagging your pages with GPT before you see Google AdSense ads trafficked through your Ad Manager network.
  • Only request ads you intend to display on the page. If you request ads, but never display them, your reporting is likely to be negatively affected.
  • Insert Google Publisher Tag on your page before you plan to fully launch Ad Manager ad serving for your content. This allows Ad Manager to build a forecasting profile for your content.
