You can set a network-wide default for how to open ads. As a publisher, you most likely want to open ads in a new tab or window. However, you have the option to open ads in the same tab or window in which your content is being viewed by visitor to your site or app.
There are two options for opening ads:
- _blank: open the click-through URL in a new window or tab.
- _top: open the click-through URL in the current window or tab.
Set default target window for the network
You can set a default target window across your network. Top-level ad units in your network use this setting by default. However, you can change the target window for any given ad unit at any time.
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Inventory, then Network settings.
- For "Target window", select _blank from the drop-down menu.
- Click Save.

Top-level ad units in your network use the target window setting set under "Network settings" by default. However, you can change this setting at any time.
- Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
- Click Inventory, then Ad units.
- Click the top-level ad unit name to navigate to its details.
- Next to "Target window", select _blank or _top.
- Click Save.
