Pre-tag your site to build forecasts

New ad units must receive traffic on your site for enough time so that Ad Manager can provide accurate inventory forecasts. Pre-tag your site before launching campaigns so you can see forecasting data as soon as a campaign starts. Try to pre-tag the site 28 days before launch.

Tag your site early and build an inventory forecast

  1. Set up inventory in Google Ad Manager with AdSense disabled for all ad units (this ensures AdSense doesn't deliver ads before you're ready). If you'll be employing key-values, be sure to define the key-values in the network.

  2. Tag your site with Google Ad Manager tags as you normally would. This will initiate forecasting. Configure Ad Manager not to return any ads until you are ready. Then collapse the empty ad slots.

For pre-tagging to be effective, Ad Manager must receive the ad requests as you would like them considered in forecasting. Ad Manager will need time to gather sufficient data to fully consider the
key-values in forecasts.

Pre-tagged ad requests are billable and are invoiced as unfilled impressions.
  1. After the forecast has collected enough data, you can create orders.

  2. If you're transitioning your inventory to Google Ad Manager from another ad server:
    1. Pause your new orders immediately after they're activated to ensure they don't serve. Use a start date close to the date you expect your existing ad server to stop serving ads.
    2. When appropriate, stop ads from your existing ad server, then unpause the Google Ad Manager orders. (Unpause can take effect within two minutes.)
