Create a codeless ad unit

With Codeless ad units you can implement ad units with certain web formats, such as anchor or web interstitial, without adding new GPT tags to your pages.

For an optimal experience, we recommend that you:

  • Use only one codeless ad unit targeting per page.
  • Use a GPT tag or a codeless ad unit to make a request, but not both. For example, if you already have a GPT tag for interstitial on a page, we recommend removing it before using a codeless ad unit for interstitial on that page.
  • Avoid having pages targeted by both a codeless ad unit and a format experiment.
  • Tag your pages as normal if you need ad unit-level key values, as codeless ad units do not support ad unit-level key values.

Create a codeless ad unit

  1. Confirm that your page has a live ad unit.
  2. Create ad units for anchors or web interstitials and save.
  3. Open the ad unit and click the Codeless tab.
  4. Turn on the toggle for "Enable codeless ad unit".
  5. "Select format" for your implementation.
    • You can select multiple formats.
    • For Anchor, choose its position(s) on the page.
Position an anchor at the top or bottom. It can also be positioned on the left or right, or both on the desktop.
  6. (Optional) For "Targeting," select where you want the format to appear.
If you don’t make any selections, the format can appear on all inventory where the GPT tag is present.
  7. Create or open an existing line item and ensure the ad unit is included in the targeted inventory.
  8. Click Save.
Interstitial frequency cap will be respected for interstitials trafficked through codeless ad units.
Publishers can create a formats experiment for these codeless ad units.
