Set the data collection control for Authorized Buyers

With the data collection control for Authorized Buyers, you can better manage how bidding ad sources use data that you’ve shared with them on the bid request. Your control of data collection is now per buyer rather than by inventory.

When data collection is turned on, bidders from the Authorized Buyers program can use bid request data for purposes such as building user profiles for interest-based ads and remarketing. You can choose to allow bidding ad sources to collect this data.

This feature replaces the discontinued data collection block

How it works

When you allow data collection, bidders from the Authorized Buyers program can build user profiles and remarketing user lists based on data from bids they have won. Bidders can use the information to better value your inventory.

When you don't allow data collection, bidders from the Authorized Buyers program are not allowed to build user lists and profiles based on data from your traffic.

Update your data collection setting

By default, data collection is allowed for Authorized Buyers. To change your data collection setting for Authorized Buyers:

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
  2. Click Delivery, then Bidders.
  3. Under "Authorized Buyers," click a bidder's name.

  4. Click Demand channel settings, and then:
    • Go to default settings or
    • Go to override group (for bidders in an override group).
  5. Under "Data usage and personalization," click Data collection and choose an option:
    • To allow data collection for the bidding ad source, click the switch on On
      This setting is the default.
    • To not allow data collection for the bidding ad source, click the switch off off disable.
  6. Click Save.
Tip: When new Authorized Buyers are added to the Authorized Buyers Program, data collection is turned on by default. You can turn off data collection for those Authorized Buyers at any time.

Note: You can change the data collection setting for Authorized Buyers, but not Open Bidding or Header Bidding.

What happens when you turn off data collection?

  • The bid request sent to an Authorized Buyer will contain a signal indicating to them that per Authorized Buyers policy, they are not allowed to use bid request data to build user lists and profiles for uses such as interest-based ads and remarketing.
  • Your earnings may decrease because bidders lose access to data that helps them value your inventory.
About historical data
Authorized Buyers may have data in their systems from ads shown in the past. This control does not ask buyers to delete historical data, and buyers may continue to use existing user profiles to serve personalized ads.
