Recover your account

If you forgot your password or you can’t sign in:

  1. On your device, go to Account recovery.
  2. To confirm it’s your account, follow the instructions as best you can.
  3. When prompted, reset your password.
  4. Choose a strong, unique password that you haven't used with this account. Learn how to create a strong password.

Change your account info

Change your profile picture

You can add or change the profile picture for your account and services like Gmail.

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Under "Personal info," select Photo.
  3. Upload a photo from your computer or choose one of your Google Photos.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to crop or rotate your photo until you're happy with it.
  5. At the bottom left, select Set as profile photo.

Change your name

You can change your name as many times as you want, but no more than 3 times in one minute. This limitation doesn't apply to accounts created less than 2 weeks ago.

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Under "Personal info," select Name and then Edit Edit.
  3. Follow the steps on the screen.

Change the phone number on your account

  1. Open your Google Account.
  2. Under "Personal info," select Contact info and then Phone.
  3. From here you can add your phone number, or select an existing phone number to change or delete it.

Tip: If you change the phone number in your Google Account, only some Google services are affected. Find out how to change your number for other Google services.

Sign out or remove your account

Sign out of your Google Account on a device you have

Important: Before you sign out, be sure to set up backup verification methods.

  1. On your device, go to a Google page, like www.google.com.
  2. At the top right, select your profile picture or initial.
  3. In the menu, select Sign out or Sign out of all accounts.

Remove your Google Account from a browser

  1. On your device, go to a browser where you're signed in, like Chrome.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top right, select your profile picture or initial.
  4. Select Sign out or Sign out of all accounts and then Remove an account.
  5. Next to an account, select Remove Remove.

Tip: If you've signed in on other browsers, like Firefox or Safari, repeat these steps for each.

Sign out of your Google Account on a device you don’t have

Important: If you don’t recognize a device or there’s unfamiliar activity on your account, secure your account.

  1. Go to your Google devices page.
    • Tip: You might need to sign in.
  2. Select the device and then Sign out.
