We've gotten reports about some users being signed out of their accounts unexpectedly. We're investigating, but not to worry: there is no indication that this is connected to any phishing or account security threats. Please try to sign-in again at accounts.google.com and if you cannot remember your password, please use this link to recover your password. If you use 2-Step Verification, there may have been a delay in receiving your SMS code. Please try again or use backup codes.

Sign in to your Google Account with another email address

When you create a Google Account, you automatically get a Gmail address. But if you’d rather use another email address to sign in, you can link a non-Gmail email address to the account and use it to sign in, recover your password, get notifications, and more.

Alternate email address requirements
  • You can't use a Gmail address.
  • You can't use an email address that's already linked to another Google Account.
  • Remember to use your Google Account password when signing in using this email address.
Add an alternate email address

Add a first alternate email address

  1. Sign in to My Account.
  2. In the "Personal info & privacy" section, select Your personal info.
  3. Choose Email and then Advanced.
  4. Next to "Alternate emails," select Add alternate email. Enter an email address you own and select Add.

Add more alternate email addresses

  1. Sign in to My Account.
  2. In the "Personal info & privacy" section, select Your personal info.
  3. Choose Email and then Alternate emails.
  4. Select Add other email. Enter an email address you own and select Add.

We'll send an email with a verification link to your alternate email address. You'll need to open the email and click the link before you can sign in to your account with the alternate address. You might not receive the email right away.

If you can’t find the message, see our tips to locate the verification email or request a new one.

Remove alternate email addresses

Remove an alternate email address

  2. In the "Personal info & privacy" section, select Your personal info.
  3. Choose Email and then Alternate emails.
  4. Next to the alternate email address you want to remove, select Remove Remove.

See which usernames you can remove from your Google Account.

When people might see your Gmail address instead of your alternate email address

In some cases, when people share things with your alternate email address, they’ll see your primary Google Account email (Gmail) address listed instead:

  • Google Docs: when someone shares content, such as a document, with your alternate email address, your Gmail address will show instead of the alternate address.
  • Google Sites: when someone shares a site with your alternate email address, your Gmail address will show instead of your alternate address.
  • Calendar: When you respond to invitations forwarded from your alternate address, the event organizer will see the responses as coming from your Gmail address.
