Copy your playlists to a service outside of YouTube Music

You can share a copy of the YouTube Music playlists saved in your Google Account with other music services. Your playlists will be directly transferred to the third-party service.

Important:  Your YouTube playlists aren’t deleted from your Google Account after you share them. Learn how to edit or delete a playlist.

Supported music services

Google Takeout can transfer your playlists directly to the supported music services. These currently include:

  • Apple Music (subscripion required)

Step 1:  Select YouTube Music playlists

Visit the transfer YouTube Music playlists view of Google Takeout or follow these steps:

  1. Visit https://myaccount.google.com/dashboard.
  2. Under “Recently used Google services” or “Other Google services,” scroll to Youtube and tap Transfer data.
  3. Choose the data you want to copy.
  4. Tap Continue.
    • You’ll need to sign in to your Google Account and authorize Takeout.

Tip:  You can transfer playlists that you’ve created. But playlists from other users that you’ve saved to your library can’t be transferred.

Step 2:  Copy your playlists

  1. Select the supported third-party service you want to share your YouTube Music playlists with from the dropdown and select Continue.
  2. Follow the steps to link your account and transfer your playlists. You’ll need to sign in to your account with the destination service and authorize Google Takeout.
  3. To start the transfer, tap Agree and continue.

Once your playlists are copied:

  • You'll get an email with a link to locate the playlists in the new service. Some services may store playlists in different locations.
  • Your Google Account will no longer have access to the service where you transferred your playlists, but it may still appear in the service’s settings.
    • You can remove your Google Account that shows up in your Apple account.

Important:  This is a one time share of your playlists. If you make any changes to them either in YouTube Music or the third-party service you shared them with, those changes won’t be reflected in the other service.

Export your playlists to other music services

For other music services that don't support direct transfer of playlists, you may be able to use a third-party service to export your YouTube playlists, albums, artists, and tracks.  Some third party services include:

You can’t currently use this feature if your Google Account:

Tip: A child under the applicable age in their country can share a copy of playlists if they have approval from their parents.

Common questions about shared copies of playlists

Will all of the songs from my playlists be copied?

Some songs may not be included due to differences in the catalogs between services. For example, if YouTube Music contains a song that Apple Music doesn’t, that song won’t be transferred when the copy of the playlist is made.

What types of playlists can be copied?

Any playlists you’ve created will be copied. The following types of playlists won’t be copied:

  • YouTube Music curated playlists.
  • Liked Music Playlists in YouTube Music.
  • Collaborative playlists if you aren’t the owner.

Also, only catalog music tracks will be transferred.  The following types of content aren’t supported:

  • User uploaded or private content.
  • Podcasts.

How long does the process take?

Most transfers should be completed within minutes. But if you have a large number of playlists and tracks, it could take hours.

Can I reverse this process?

No.  Once you allow a copy of a playlist to be created, you can’t reverse the process.

What if I cancel the transfer before it is complete?

If you cancel the process from Google Takeout and Google has started to share a copy of your playlists, some tracks or playlists may have already been copied and transferred. This can’t be reversed or undone.

To fully cancel the process, visit the Apple privacy portal and make sure the request is canceled there as well. Otherwise if you try to start a new transfer, you may get an error.

Can I transfer specific songs or playlists?

No, this feature currently only supports the transfer of all your created playlists with no ability to select a subset of them or specific songs.

Are my playlists moved out of YouTube music?

No.  YouTube Music just sends the data needed to generate identical playlists in a Apple Music. It doesn’t impact your YouTube Music account.
