Make or edit a playlist

Never lose track of your favorite music videos by creating custom playlists in YouTube Music. Your playlists will show up on the Library tab of both the YouTube Music and YouTube apps. On the computer, your playlists will also show up in the sidebar. Trending playlists may be featured on the homepage of the YouTube Music app.

How to create and edit playlists in YouTube Music

Your playlists will show up on the Library tab of both the YouTube Music and YouTube apps.

When you view a made for kids content or an artist detail page, the Menu  options will be different from other content. You can't save this content to a playlist, to your liked songs, or share it.

Create a new playlist or add a song to a playlist

You can create a new playlist or add songs to an existing playlist in a few different ways.

From a song you're currently listening to:

  1. Tap More .
  2. Tap Add to playlist.
  3. Tap New playlist or select an existing playlist.

From the Library , Home , or Search  tabs:

  1. Tap More .
  2. Tap Add to playlist.
  3. Tap New playlist or select an existing playlist.

From the Samples tab:

  1. Tap Add to playlist .
  2. Tap Change to select a different playlist.

By selecting an upcoming song in a playlist or station:

  1. On the player page of any song, tap Up next.
  2. Touch and hold on a song.
  3. From the menu that appears, tap Add to playlist.
  4. Tap New playlist or select an existing playlist.

Edit a playlist

To edit a playlist you've created:
  1. Select the Library tab .
  2. Find and tap the playlist you've created that you'd like to edit.
  3. To add a song, scroll to the bottom of the playlist and tap Add a song.
  4. To remove a song, swipe left on the song and tap Remove.
  5. To change the title of your playlist, add a description, change privacy, or reorder songs, tap More and then Edit playlist.

Delete a playlist

To delete a playlist:

  1. Find the playlist in your Library tab .
  2. Tap More and then Delete.

Collaborate on a playlist

YouTube Music listeners can invite friends to collaborate on their playlists.

  1. At the top of your playlist, tap Share .
  2. Tap Invite collaborators .
  3. Choose who you’d like to invite.

If your playlist isn’t unlisted or public yet, you’ll be asked to make it shareable before your invite is sent. You can add hundreds of people to your playlist and include thousands of videos or songs.

As a collaborator, you can share, sort, add to, and edit the playlist. Learn more about collaborative playlists on YouTube.

Note: The playlist owner can turn off sharing at any time, preventing new people from adding to the playlist.

Set playlist privacy through YouTube Music

To change your playlist privacy settings:

  1. Tap the Library tab.
  2. Tap Playlist and then Edit .
  3. Tap the Playlist privacy Down arrow below the playlist’s title.
  4. Tap your privacy setting.
  5. Click Save.

Add a thumbnail to your playlist

To customize your playlist, you can create a custom thumbnail using artificial intelligence (AI).
  1. Open your playlist with a YouTube Premium account.
  2. Select Edit .
  3. Select Create with AI .
  4. Pick a theme to get options.
  5. If you want, change a few words in the description to get more options.
  6. Select Create.

Notes:

  • YouTube Music is a music-centered experience — you can only watch and create playlists of music videos. If you make a playlist in the YouTube main app, only music videos from your playlist will surface on YouTube Music. You can enjoy playlists of non-music videos in the YouTube app.
  • There's a limit to how many public playlists a channel can create each day across YouTube Music, YouTube main app, and the YouTube API. You can increase your daily limit by gaining access to advanced features. Learn more.
