Transfer supervision of a child account

The family manager can transfer a child account from their family group to another user.

Important:

  • You can only switch supervision on accounts once every 12 months.
  • There's a 7-day duration to receive the transfer notification.
  • There's a 7-day time frame to accept the transfer after the notification has been received.

Transfer child account

  1. In your Google Account, open the People & sharing tab.
  2. Select Family management.
  3. Select a child account and then Start transfer.
  4. To verify your account, enter your password.
  5. Confirm the new family manager’s email.
  6. Select Start transfer.

Cancel transfer

You can cancel within the first week before the family manager accepts the transfer.

  1. In your Google Account, open the People & sharing tab.
  2. Select Family management.
  3. Select a child account and then Cancel transfer.
  4. To verify your account, enter your password.
  5. Select Cancel transfer.

Accept transfer

The account transfers to the new family group when the new family manager accepts the transfer. If the new family manager isn’t a member of a family group, the system creates a new one.

Important: When you complete the transfer, the child can't access their previous family group.

  1. Open the transfer email from Google.
  2. Select Start transfer.
  3. Acknowledge the terms on your screen.
  4. To verify your account, enter your password.
  5. Review and agree to the terms on your screen.
