Manage your child's Google Account with Family Link

Parents in your family group can use Family Link to manage account settings in your child's Google Account.

Monitor Google Account settings

Note: Family Link’s parental supervision services may vary depending on your child's device.

Monitor Google activity on your child's account

Based on the Google activity settings you chose for your child, Google may save some activity to your child's Google Account.

You can change your child's settings to stop Google from saving this type of activity, but doing so may mean some Family Link features and other Google services won't work.

Choose your child's Google Activity settings
  1. Open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. On the "Settings" card, tap Manage settings and then More and then Manage Google activity and then Manage activity controls.
  4. Tap an activity control and turn it on or pause it.
Choose whether your child can change their Google Activity settings

Both you and your child can change their Google activity settings. If you want, you can make it so only parents can change these settings.

  1. Open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. On the "Settings" card, tap Manage settings and then More and then Manage Google activity.
  4. Under "Choose who can manage activity controls," select Only parents or Kid and parents.
Important: You can also manage this setting by clicking on your child's name at families.google.com.
See or delete your child's saved activity

Important: If you added supervision to your child’s previously existing Google Account, you’ll need their help to do this.

  1. On your child's device, visit the My Activity page.
  2. In the top right, tap More Moreand then Select.
  3. Check the boxes next to any activity you want to delete.
  4. Tap Delete Delete and then Delete.

Note: These options are only available if your child is under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and has not chosen to manage their own account.

Change your child's name, birthday, or gender

  3. On their current picture, tap Photo Upload profile picture.
  4. Select a photo, or take a new one.
Reset your child's password

  3. On the "Settings" card, tap Manage settings and then Account info and then Change password.

2-Step Verification for your child's account

  • If your child has 2-Step Verification turned on for their account and you change their password, 2-Step Verification will be turned off and an extra layer of security will be removed from their account.

  • Once 2-Step Verification is turned off, a notification email will be sent to both you and your child.

  • Your child can turn on 2-Step Verification again once they sign in to their account. Learn more.
