Set up Voice on your mobile device or computer using the instructions in your Voice welcome email.

Note: Voice is available in certain countries. If you're not able to set up Voice, contact your administrator.

  1. Find your Voice welcome email.
  2. Follow the instructions to install the Google Voice app.

    Note: If you get an error message about your account when you try to install the app, contact your administrator.

  3. Open the Google Voice app "".
  4. Sign in to your Google Workspace account (your Google Account set up through your organization).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to get set up.

Sign in and set up Voice

After you sign in for the first time, each time you open Voice, you’re automatically signed in. However, you can switch to a different Google Account if it’s set up in Voice.

Important: Each Google Account can only have one Voice number.

(Chrome Browser or Mozilla Firefox only)

  1. Find the welcome email you were sent for Google Voice.
  2. Go to voice.google.com.
  3. Sign in to your Google Workspace account (Google Account from your work or school).
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to get set up.
  5. Set up other features in Voice, such as a voicemail greeting.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. In the upper right, click Sign In.
  3. Enter your Google Account information.
  4. Click Next.

Sign out of Voice

Sign out of Voice on your computer by signing out of your Google Account.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click your profile photo.
  3. Click Sign out.

Add linked phone numbers

You can set up multiple devices and non-Voice numbers that will all ring simultaneously when a call comes in on your Voice number.

You can have up to 6 numbers linked. If 2 numbers are engaged in a call, then any additional callers to one of those numbers will be sent to voicemail.

If you link your mobile phone’s number, anytime an internet connection isn’t available, Voice uses your mobile carrier. To receive calls on your computer, voice.google.com must be open. In Chrome browser, you can pin the Voice tab so it stays open. Just right-click the tab and click Pin Tab.

Important: It isn't possible to link one Voice number to another one. 

Note: You can’t use third-party automated attendants to handle calls. If you're an administrator who manages Voice for your organization, you must set up an automated attendant before people can transfer calls.

Add a linked number

  1. Open Voice.
  2. At the top right, click Settings "".
  3. In the Account section, under Linked numbers, click New linked number.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your number.
  5. (Optional) To add more linked numbers (up to 6), repeat steps 3 and 4.

Remove a linked number

  1. Go to Google Voice.
  2. In the top right, click Settings "".
  3. On the left, click Account.
  4. Next to your linked number, click Remove Removeand then Remove.

Add contacts in Voice

Google Voice syncs your contacts from Google Contacts. For details, see Use contacts in Voice.

Create a voicemail greeting

You can create a custom greeting for your voicemail or use the default greeting. Create up to 10 voicemail greetings and select the one that you want callers to hear.

Create a new greeting

Important: Voicemail recording doesn't work with Microsoft Internet Explorer, so callers hear the default greeting. You can personalize your greeting in the app or with a supported browser.

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Settings "".
  3. On the left, click Voicemail.
  4. In the Active greeting section, click Record a greeting.
  5. Click Record "".
  6. Record your greeting and then click Stop "".
  7. Choose what you want to do with the recording:
    • To listen to the recording, click Play "".
    • To replace the recording, click Redo.
    • To save the recording, click Save. Enter a name for the new greeting and click Save.

You can record a greeting up to 3 minutes long.

Change your greeting

  1. On your computer, go to voice.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Settings "".
  3. On the left, click Voicemail.
  4. In the Active greeting section, click Manage all greetings.
  5. Next to the greeting that you want to use, click More ""and then Set as active.
Select Voicemail under Settings to manage all greetings.
