Write grant applications & proposals

Gemini for Google Workspace can help with your entire grant-writing process, from researching and drafting to preparing for final submission.

1. Summarize guidelines for grant applications

Gemini for Google Workspace can extract the main eligibility requirements from long or complex funding guidelines, such as from a government agency or charitable organization. Quickly understand the application process and whether your organization is eligible.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the guidelines. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Open cheatsheet

Prompt:

"These eligibility requirements for applying for a grant are long and complicated. Rewrite these guidelines to briefly summarize specific requirements. Use shorter sentences and paragraphs that include bullet points to highlight key points."

2. Quickly explore a funder's priorities & focus

The most effective grant proposals target your prospective funder's primary goals and concerns. Gemini for Google Workspace can help extract these priorities from the funder's website or news articles. Save time on research, and get started writing a proposal that will resonate with your funder.

"You are applying for a grant from [funder name]. Using only the information selected here, summarize the top 3 focus areas of importance to this funder."

3. Draft a targeted grant proposal

Based on the funder's priorities, Gemini for Google Workspace can then draft your proposal, using language aligned with the funder's goals and mission. Ask Gemini to include the goals of your project, KPIs, and budget requests. Use Gemini's draft as a starting point to revise as you want.

Setup:

In a Google Doc, insert and select the funder priorities identified in the previous tip. Then use Help me Write  to enter a prompt asking Gemini about the selection.

Open cheatsheet

Prompt:

"Draft a proposal for a grant from [name of funder] to support [your cause]. Include goals, KPIs, and budget requests. Use language that targets the 3 focus areas selected here."

4. Edit for grammar, clarity, and consistency
