You can open as many tabs as you want in Chrome browser. You can also view all your tabs and switch between them. |
Open a new tab
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- Next to the last tab on the right, click New tab
.
- Use a keyboard shortcut:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + t.
- On a Mac, press ⌘ + t.
- Next to the last tab on the right, click New tab
Open a tab in a new window
- Open Chrome browser.
- Click and drag the tab outside the window.
- To open a new window, choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + n.
- On Mac, press ⌘ + n.
Open a file in a new tab
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- From your computer's desktop or folder:
- Drag a file onto a Chrome browser tab.
- Click Add
.
- Browse and select the file from your computer.
- Open a new tab.
- Choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + o.
- On Mac, press ⌘ + o.
- From your computer's desktop or folder:
Open a link in a new tab
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + click a link.
- On Mac, press ⌘ + click a link.
Close a tab
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- At the top right of the tab, click Close
.
- Choose a keyboard shortcut:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + w.
- On a Mac, press ⌘ + w.
- At the top right of the tab, click Close
Close all tabs in a window
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, at the top right, click Close
.
- On a Mac, at the top left, click Close
.
- On Windows & Linux, at the top right, click Close
- (Optional) To use keyboard shortcuts to close all tabs in a window, choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, press Alt + F4.
- On a Mac, press ⌘ + Shift + w.
Force a page or app to close
If a tab, window, or extension isn't working, you can force it to close using Chrome browser's task manager.
- Open Chrome browser.
- On the right, click More
.
- Click More Tools
Task Manager.
- Select the webpage, extension, or app you want to close.
- Click End Process.
Bring back a tab or window
If you accidentally close a tab or window, you can open it again using a keyboard shortcut.
- Open Chrome browser.
- Choose an option:
- On Windows & Linux, press Ctrl + Shift + t.
- On a Mac, press ⌘ + Shift + t.
