Decommission Meet

You can turn off Meet at your organization. You might want to do this if you’re transitioning to another videoconferencing service, or if you’re removing videoconferencing hardware from a meeting space. Depending on how you use Meet, you might not need to complete all of the tasks listed below.

Google Calendar

Turn off automatic video calls in Google Calendar.

Note: Users can still manually add Hangouts Meet links to events after you turn off automatic video calls.

Hangouts Meet add-in for Microsoft Outlook

If you installed the Hangouts Meet add-in for Microsoft Outlook, remove it. For details on turning off an add-in for Outlook, refer to your Microsoft documentation.

Hangouts Meet on Jamboard

If you use Jamboard for video meetings, turn off videoconferencing.

Room resources

If you added videoconferencing details to a room resource, such as a description, features, or other information, you might want to edit or remove them.

  1. From the Admin console Home page, go to Directory and then Buildings and resources and then Manage resources.
  2. Click a room resource.
  3. Click Details or Features, then click Edit Edit.
  4. After you make your changes, click Save.

If you created a report for videoconferencing data, delete it.

Network configuration

If you whitelisted Meet’s media servers, remove them.

Turn off Hangouts Meet and classic Hangouts

To turn off Hangouts Meet:

  1. From the Admin console Home page, go to Apps and then G Suite and then Google Hangouts.
  2. Click Meet settings.
  3. Select the desired organizational unit. (Otherwise, your settings apply to your entire organization.)
  4. Click Hangouts Meet.
  5. Uncheck the setting for All Chrome devices for meetings displaying Hangouts Meet.
  6. Click Save.

To turn off classic Hangouts video calls:

  1. Sign in to your Admin console with your full G Suite email address and password.
  2. Verify that the Talk/Hangouts service is enabled.
  3. On the dashboard, click Apps and then G Suite and then Google Hangouts.
  4. Select the desired organizational unit. (Otherwise, your settings apply to your entire organization.)
  5. Click Chat settings.
  6. Under Additional Services, uncheck Allow users to place voice and video calls from classic Hangouts and chat.
  7. Click Save.
