Migrate from IMAP servers to Google Workspace

This migration guide helps you import your organization's email from an IMAP server to Gmail for Google Workspace. Use the migration products below with any RFC 3501-compliant IMAP server, including Novell GroupWise, Cyrus, Courier, Dovecot, SunMail, or Zimbra.

Migration options

If the IMAP server...	Then use...
Has a trusted TLS certificate Is accessible from Google services	Data migration service Must be a super admin to use this product.
Doesn't have a trusted TLS certificate Isn't accessible from Google services, such as an internal network Uses plain usernames instead of an email address for login	Google Workspace Migration for Microsoft Exchange (GWMME) Must be a super admin to use this product.

Note: When migrating from IMAP, Gmail, or Google Workspace, both the data migration service and GWMME move email and label data only. The transfer doesn't include calendar events and resources, contacts, Google Drive files, Google Sites, or any other non-mail content.
