Lock a device and reset its password

This feature is supported on Android devices only. 

As an administrator, you can protect the data on a company-owned device by locking the device.  When a device is locked, users must enter a password to unlock it. This feature helps if the device is ever lost or stolen. If needed, you can also reset the device's password.

 

Lock a device

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Device Management and then Mobile devices.

    To see Device Management, you might have to click More controls at the bottom.

  3. Select the device and click Lock Device.

Note: With this setting, users must enter a password before they can use the device.

Reset the device password

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Device Management and then Mobile devices.

    To see Device Management, you might have to click More controls at the bottom.

  3. Select the device and click Reset Device Password.
  4. Enter and then confirm the new password.
    Make sure the passwords match and that they meet your company's standards.
  5. Click Reset Password.
