Can't add new domain to Google account

If you tried to add a new domain to your Google account and see the "This domain name has already been used as an alias or domain" message, it means that the domain is already associated to your Google account or another Google account that you don't manage. 

If you recently deleted the domain

  • It can take up to 24 hours after you delete a domain before you can add it to a different Google account. Or, if you purchased your account from a reseller, it can take up to 7 days.
  • If it's been more than 24 hours since you deleted the domain, some of the steps to delete it might not be completed.

Verify the domain has been deleted

  1. Sign in to the Admin console, using the account you used to delete the domain.
  2. From the dashboard, click Domains. Where is it?
  3. If the domain is still listed, complete the steps to delete the domain.

If you think the domain exists in a Google account you don't manage

If you're the current owner of the domain:

  1. Check to see if someone in your organization previously registered this domain with Google. If so, work with that person to obtain access to the account.
  2. If nobody in your organization remembers registering the domain with Google, contact G Suite support to verify that you own the domain. G Suite Support will then clear the domain from the G Suite systems. (G Suite only)
