What to know before you upgrade

  • Everyone in your organization gets the same subscription. For example, you can’t transition some users to Business Plus while others keep using Business Standard edition.
  • If you’re on an Annual/Fixed-Term Plan, the transition includes all of your current users.

If you already have Google Vault: Before switching editions, follow these steps to make sure you don’t accidentally lose data.
  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, at the top left, click Menu ""and thenBillingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. At the top left, click Add a subscription.
  4. Scroll to G Suite Business and click Upgrade.
  5. Select a payment plan:
    • Flexible Plan—No long-term commitment, pay for the users you have each month, and add or remove users as needed.
    • Annual Plan (Monthly Payment)—Requires a 1-year contract, pay monthly for users committed upfront, and add users as needed. You can increase the number of users in the users needed field.

(Optional) Step 2: Set up archiving with Google Vault

If you haven’t yet set up archiving with Google Vault, go to Get started: Vault administrators.
