What is Google Vault?

Retention and eDiscovery for G Suite organizations

Vault is for administrators and legal personnel. Vault won't work properly until your G Suite administratorsets up your account. 

Use Vault to retain, hold, search, and export data in support of your organization’s retention and eDiscovery needs. Vault supports:

  • Gmail messages
  • Chats in classic Hangouts with history turned on and Google Talk chats that are on the record
  • Google Groups
  • Files in Google Drive
  • Conversations in Google Chat with history turned on.
  • Recordings in Google Meet

Vault is entirely web-based, so there's no need to install or maintain any software. Vault is included with G Suite Enterprise, Business, Education, or G Suite Essentials edition. (Compare editions.) Or you can buy Vault licenses for an additional $5 per user, per month.

G Suite customers can use Vault for:

  • Retention—Set retention rules to control how long data is retained before being removed from user accounts and deleted from Google systems. Learn about retention.
