When you set up billing for your service, you choose your account type: Business or Individual. A Business account means you’re engaged in economic activity; you expect to receive revenue from your activities. Business account customers include corporations, affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants, and partnerships. Business accounts are responsible for self-assessing and paying their own VAT.
If you're in North America, Brazil, or EMEA (excluding Russia), including Switzerland, Norway, and Lichtenstein, your account type is automatically set to Business when you sign up for a new account. You can't set up billing with the Individual account type. Other regions can select either Business or Individual. For Individual accounts, Google automatically adds VAT to invoices for services.
Prices shown on the Google website for a service do not include VAT.
Provide your VAT ID
How you provide your VAT ID to Google depends on how you pay:
- If your payment is deducted automatically—Update your tax information in your payment settings.
- If you pay by monthly invoice—Contact Google Workspace support to submit your VAT ID.
