How you can customize your ads experience
With My Ad Center, you can customize your ads experience on Google services to see ads about things you like more often and ads about things you don’t like less often. You can:
- Customize ad topics and brands – to tell Google what kinds of things you want to see more or fewer ads about.
- Limit ads about sensitive topics – to tell Google not show you ads about certain sensitive topics, like alcohol or gambling.
- Turn on or off personalized ads on Google – to tell Google whether or not to use your preferences, info, and activity to show you relevant ads.
Customizing your ads and limiting ads about sensitive topics do not affect the ads you see in the same way. When you customize your ads, you let Google know your preferences and we try to show you ads that suit them. If you ask to see fewer ads from a brand or topic, you may still see relevant ads from that brand or topic, but should see ads of different brands or topics more often. When you limit ads about sensitive topics, we recognize that the topic might be uncomfortable for you and make our best attempt to not show you ads about those topics.

Where can you customize your ads
You can customize your ads in the My Ad Center or on ads you see on Google services. You can access My Ad Center on every Google service where you might see ads, like Google Search, YouTube, and Maps.
My Ad Center works best in the newest versions of your browser. Without the most up-to-date version of your browser, you may not be able to use My Ad Center. Learn more about how to update your browser.
Customize ad topics and brands
With My Ad Center, you can customize your ads by choosing the topics and brands that you’d like to get more or fewer ads about. By customizing your ads, you have greater control of the kinds of ads you see on Google services, like Search and YouTube.
When you customize your ad, you are influencing how Google determines what ads to show you. If you tell Google you’d like to see more ads about hiking and see fewer ads about jewelry, you may start to see more ads related to the outdoors and fewer ones related to necklaces.
On Google
You can customize your ads in My Ad Center and on ads you see on Google services. To customize your ads, when you see an ad on Google:
- On the ad, select More
or Info
- Select See more
or See fewer
on the topics or brands you want to see more or fewer ads about.
My Ad Center is being rolled out across all Google services. You may, however, not see this feature on all Google services right away.
This feature isn’t available if you’ve turned personalized ads off or are signed out of your Google Account.

- Alcohol
- Dating
- Gambling
- Pregnancy and parenting

We offer the option to limit ads related to specific topics based on extensive user research into what topics people consider to be the most sensitive. This research is ongoing, so we’ll continue to assess topics based on your feedback.
Update your settings for sensitive topics
All sensitive topics are allowed by default. You can update your settings for individual topics in My Ad Center.
- In My Ad Center, select Customize Ads.
- In the “Customize the ads you see” section, click the Sensitive tab.
- Set your preference for each topic by turning the switch for that topic off or on. When you choose to limit a topic, it will be labeled as “Limited by you”.
- Confirm your selections. Your preferences are automatically saved.
Why am I still getting ads about sensitive topics I’ve limited?
Sometimes you may be shown an ad that mentions a sensitive topic you’ve chosen to limit. There are a few common reasons this can happen.
- Your settings for sensitive topics only affect the ads you get on Google services while you’re signed into your Google Account. If you’re not signed in, you may still get ads related to topics you’ve limited.
- Sometimes ads about unrelated topics may include references to sensitive topics you’ve limited. For example, an ad for an airline may show someone drinking a glass of champagne. This ad isn’t considered an alcohol ad, so you may see it even if you’ve chosen to limit ads about alcohol.
- Your ads are affected by your search activity, even if you’ve chosen to limit ads about a sensitive topic. For example, if you use Google Search to look for dating apps, you may see ads for dating apps in your search results even if you’ve chosen to limit ads about dating.
