Why listen to your favorite entertainment on your phone when you can blast it through an audio device? By casting a Chrome browser tab, you can cast what's playing on your computer to your audio device. To get started, please be sure that you're fully set up to use Google Cast audio device with Chrome.
To set up casting from Chrome- If you're not already running Chrome, download Chrome. If you are, Chrome updates automatically, so no action should be required.
- Make sure that you're running the latest version of Chrome. If you're having trouble, here's how to get Chrome updates.
- Install the Google Cast extension. If the Google Cast Extension is already installed on your browser, you'll see a Cast icon in the Chrome toolbar (near the top-right).
- If you plan to cast a tab's audio to your Google Cast audio device, review the Minimum System Requirements to ensure that your computer and network are capable of supporting this.
- Open the tab that you want to send to your audio device.
- In the top-right corner of your Chrome browser, click the Cast icon

- Choose the Google Cast audio device to which you want to cast the tab. Can't find your device?
- When active, the Cast icon will turn blue

.With Windows laptops/desktops you can cast your desktop/laptop audio (vs just the specific Chrome tab). Follow these instructions to start casting your system audio:
How will I know it’s casting?
- In the top-right corner of your Chrome browser, click the Cast icon
- Next to where it says, “Cast this tab to …”, you’ll see a small drop-down. Click on that to change the source selection.
- Choose “Cast this screen/window”.
- Choose the Google Cast audio device to which you want to cast.
- In the “Share your screen” dialogue, choose “Entire screen”.
- When active, the Cast icon will turn blue

You can cast most web content. Sites using plug-ins such as Silverlight, Quicktime & VLC aren’t supported and may result in a lack of sound.
Audio and video
You’ll hear music for the selected tab on your audio device. Note: There may be a slight delay between performing an action on your device and hearing audio playing from your audio device.
What if my Google Cast audio device is currently in use?
After opening the menu or selecting the device, you’ll see a short description of the Google Cast audio device's current activity. Click the Cast this Tab button to stop what’s playing and cast the current tab's audio instead.
Any shortcuts?
- Switch to other tabs and/or applications while casting using the Alt-Tab (Mac: Command-Tab) keyboard shortcut.
- Click on the status area of the current casting to return to the original tab.
- Mute what’s casting to your audio device by clicking the mute button. Note: This is different from your audio device's mute function. You need to unmute from Chrome to hear sound on your audio device.
- Click the Stop button or close the tab to stop casting.
