What do Zagat ratings mean?

The dimensional ratings are as follows:

26 - 30extraordinary to perfection
21 - 25very good to excellent
16 - 20good to very good
11 - 15fair to good
0 - 10poor to fair

For restaurants, the cost includes the price of dinner with one drink and tip; lunch is usually 25-30% less. For unrated newcomers, the price range is as follows:

I (inexpensive) - $25 and below
M (moderate) - $26-40
E (expensive) - $41-65
VE (very expensive) - $66 and above

For shopping and nightlife, costs are indicated as I (inexpensive), M (moderate), E(expensive) and VE (very expensive).

Preview reviews represent the early verdict on notable places that have not been open long enough to be included in an active survey. The ratings and comments are drawn from customer feedback, but because these places are relatively new, the results generally reflect a limited number of responses..
