System requirements

System requirements for Android devices

  • YouTube TV works on most Android L devices and above, including on both phones and tablets. 
  • To confirm that your device is supported, download the YouTube TV app from the Play Store. If your device is not supported, the app cannot be downloaded and you'll get an alert. "This item is not compatible with your device." 

Update your device

For the best video playback experience, make sure to update your device to the latest version of Android:

  1. Go to your device's Settings.
  2. Select System updates.
  3. If an update is available, tap Download and install.

Troubleshoot device issues watching YouTube TV 

I can hear audio, but I don’t see the video.

If you’re watching on your computer using a browser like Safari or Chrome and see a black screen while audio is playing, try disconnecting external display devices.

I’m having issues watching YouTube TV on my Roku player.

If you run into an HDCP error on your Roku player, turn on the HDMI Ultra HD Color setting on your TV.
If you experience choppy playback on your Roku player, turn off HDR on your "Display type" settings on Roku:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Display type and then choose 4K 30 Hz TV, 4K 60 Hz TV, or 4K HDR 60 Hz.

I’m having issues watching YouTube TV on my Apple TV.

Apple TV users with app version 1.13.1 and newer might experience a blank screen or flickering when changing channels and during ad transitions.
To minimize video delays, try setting your default video format to SDR while Match Dynamic Range is ON. To adjust this setting:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Video and Audio and then Format and then (Pick any SDR option).

You can also turn off “Match Dynamic Range” on your Apple TV to improve performance. To turn off dynamic range matching: 

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Video and Audio and then Match Content and then Match Dynamic Range and then Off .

I’m not getting local stations on my TV. 

For devices without built-in GPS capability, you need to verify your location using a mobile device in order to access local programs. 

If you’re using one of the supported devices listed above, and local stations aren’t working: 

  1. Go to Settings > Location on a mobile device.
  2. Select Update playback area to set your location
