YouTube Kids profile vs. Google Account for children

YouTube Kids profile

What is a YouTube Kids profile?

A YouTube Kids profile is a profile within a parent's Google Account. Profiles are available only when the parent is signed in to YouTube Kids with their Google Account. With the profile, the child's search and watch history doesn't affect the parent's search history, watch history or recommendations on other Google services.

When would I use this?

Profiles only work on YouTube Kids, so we recommend creating a profile if your child only uses YouTube Kids. If your child uses multiple Google services, we recommend that you create a Google Account for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) that is managed with Family Link.
Note that profiles and Google Accounts for children are available only in certain countries.

Google Account for children under 13

What is a Google Account for children?

A Google Account for children is a Google Account that you (the parent) create or manage for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) using Family Link.

When would I use this?

If you want your child to have access to many Google products outside of YouTube Kids, such as Search, Chrome and Gmail, you can create a Google Account for them.
