Manage YouTube Kids Settings for your child's Google Account

To access settings at any time, click Settings  in the bottom corner of the screen.

Once the app is set up, your child will be able to control some settings in YouTube Kids. You can control what level of content your child sees by customising their content

This is currently available only in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Jamaica, the Philippines and South Africa.

Children control the following settings in the YouTube Kids app:

  • Sound effects
  • App music
  • Enable casting
  • Enable subtitles

Parents control the following settings in Family Link:

  • Clear blocked videos
  • Content level setting (only available in the United States at the moment).
  • Search On/Off

After you've set up the YouTube Kids app on your child's device, the Search, Content Level and Unblock Videos settings can be controlled later in the Family Link App on your device. Learn more about changing YouTube Kids settings in the Family Link app.

You can also use the Family Link app to manage your child's activity settings, including their YouTube Search History and YouTube Watch History settings.

Audio

You can enable or disable app music and sound effects in YouTube Kids Settings.

App music

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap App music to toggle app music on or off.

Sound effects

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Sound effects to toggle sound effects on or off.

Content controls

With content controls, you can enable or disable casting and change the appearance of subtitles and closed captions.

Cast YouTube Kids

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Casting to toggle casting on and off.

Change the size of subtitles and closed captions

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Subtitles and Closed captions.
  3. Tap Text Size.
  4. Select the text size that you want.

Change the colours of subtitles and closed captions 

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Subtitles and Closed captions.
  3. Tap Subtitles style.
  4. Select the subtitles that you want.

Privacy

The Privacy Notice for Google Accounts created in Family Link describes our privacy practices when your child uses YouTube Kids with their Google Account. When your child uses YouTube Kids without signing in with their Google Account, the YouTube Kids Privacy Notice applies.
When your child uses YouTube Kids with their Google Account, you can use the Family Link app to manage your child's activity settings, including their YouTube Search History and YouTube Watch History settings.

What if my child doesn't have a Google Account for children under 13?

If your child doesn't have a Google Account for children under 13, you can create a YouTube Kids profile for them under your own Google Account. Learn more.
