Set content level for YouTube Kids with the Family Link app

When your child uses YouTube Kids with their Google Account, you can change their content level setting in the Family Link app on your device.

Preschool setting

The Preschool content setting (age four and under) allows children to watch videos that promote creativity, learning and exploration. Search results in Preschool are limited to content recommended for children aged four and under. Our systems work hard to exclude content that is not suitable for children in preschool, but not all videos have been manually reviewed. If you find something inappropriate that we've missed, you can block it or report it for fast review. Learn more.

Younger setting

The Younger content setting (ages 5–8) allows children to search and explore songs, cartoons, crafts and more. Our systems work hard to exclude content that is not suitable for young children, but we can't manually review all videos. You may find something inappropriate that we missed. With this setting, search results will be limited to content for children aged eight and under. If you wish to turn Search off, you can do this by following the instructions in parental settings. Older setting

The Older content setting (ages 9–12) allows children to search and explore music videos, gaming, science and more. Our systems try to exclude adult content, but we can't manually review all videos. You may find something inappropriate that we missed. With this setting, search results are limited to content recommended for children aged 12 and under. If you wish to turn off the Search feature, you can do this following sign-up in parental settings. Learn more.

You can change these settings at any time. If your child is using YouTube Kids with their Google Account, you can change their YouTube Kids settings:

• In the Family Link app on your device, or
• In your linked parent account's YouTube settings

Select content level in the Family Link app

 

1. On your device, open the Family Link app .
2. Select your child.
3. Tap Controls  Content restrictions  YouTube.
4. Under 'YouTube Kids settings', you can:
   • Update content level settings.
   • Turn Search on or off.
   • Remove access to YouTube Kids.
