Removing automatic posting of public YouTube activity on Twitter and Google+ 1 Recommended Answer 42 Replies 1777 Upvotes

Many years ago, we introduced the option to automatically post your public YouTube activity with your social media followers on both Twitter and Google+. Since then, we’ve found that social sharing works better when the message is more customized and takes advantage of social media features, such as @mentions. Overall, this provides a better experience for both you and your followers vs automatically generated posts.

After January 31st, the ability to automatically post your YouTube Activity on Twitter and Google+ will no longer be available. You can still share videos on social networks directly from YouTube via the Share button. Creators will also see an option to Share on social networks/platforms right after they successfully upload a new video.

Automatic sharing of YouTube activity to Twitter
The options in YouTube Settings > Connected apps > “Share your public activity to Twitter” will be going away. This only affects sharing of public activity going forward, items already shared will remain on Twitter.

Automatic sharing to Twitter and Google+ via uploads or Creator Studio
You’ll also no longer see the option to automatically share your video on Google+ and Twitter via the upload flow in Creator Studio.

Important note: we are not removing the ability to add social media links to your channel banner. You can still add a link to your Twitter profile from your Channel > About tab > Customize channel > Links.

Hope this heads up is helpful,
Jordan

I can't believe I'm actually the first person to reply to this :/
Honestly I don't see a point to removing this since people who want to customize their tweets already do it and people who use this feature probably won't manually tweet once it's gone, but I don't work for a multi billion dollar company so idk

It was bad enough when you took out the tagging of creators that opted into being tagged, but getting rid of the feature all together is ridiculous. Sure, if people want to SHARE videos, they'll share them with a customised message, like we've always done. But people don't hit the like button and then take time to share every single video they've 'liked'. This supported creators a lot, having that extra boost in promotion on Twitter. But I wouldn't expect anything less from YouTube at this point...

RIP, that was such a convenient feature. I can share on twitter and google plus at the same time as soon as I upload a video.

I'm fine with this except for no longer being able to automatically share to Twitter and G+ with a custom message via uploads on Creator Studio. It was honestly useful.

I use this all the time when I am announcing that a video is live. It is super helpful to me and I feel that i am reaching my audience on Twitter. I definitely write my own custom tweets for each video. They are all similar to each other, but get their point across. Once that is gone, I feel like I will be losing one source of traffic for my channel since I won't really post that a video is up. I may from time to time, but not as often as  the automatic sharing does. I'm just one man trying to make a simple living here, not a giant mutli billion dollar corporation with a marketing department, that is for sure.

Okay
This feature is not necessarily regularly for Twitter, but a great feature to share on Google Plus regularly.

Very disappointing - I use the facility all the time to tweet my video uploads and can do this when scheduling my video uploads when I am away working or on holiday - now I will have to manually go to the video and tweet it, which I often cannot do if away from home working etc...a very useful feature removed. It's currently optional to use this feature when uploading a video but to remove the feature completely just sucks.

If people wanted to customize their twitter post they would.  Guess I will use IFTTT do this now.  I already use it to post to my Facebook page when a video goes live.

Oh, what the crikey, man?! Why do you have to remove that useful feature over here?! Great, NOW I have to literally copy and paste my links to my new videos and post them on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+?

*sigh* ...

That's bad enough when YouTube's killing off the classic Creators Studio which is faster on my laptop since the new one I tried slows down Waterfox.

I understand Google plans to completely discontinue Google+ eventually, so that makes sense. But why punish every other media platform? This feature already let's you make a custom social post, and it lets you do it in one step. No, YouTube. This is a feature that needs to stay.

Yes, i dont understand. Perhaps if you explain the company war reasoning behind this it would make more sense? Or is it to stop bot promotion - & even then, why stop creators auto-posting an upload?

You did good on the new comment reply tho. So...I just dont want to always say negative things. But YT not auto playing on Twtr and FB was already a hindrance (for advertisers as well - bc ppl do not click of platform while scrolling...any1 who uses these platforms knows that)

Just as it sucks twtr wont post properly to FB anymore. Now I get some of this is the other companies. But maybe outline where that is the case? All i know is if I upload directly to FB or twtr I get HUNDREDS more views that no longer translate to YouTube.

& since FB owns IGTV - they are a few tweaks & vague creator program promise away from rendering YT obsolete. Idk why youd want to let that happen.

Screw you YouTube and Google. You are some terrible people. Even at Gmail, Chrome and Android you continue to rip out features and/or leave us with a terrible design and/or performance

As someone that doesnt really use twitter, this was a handy feature that got my videos on there without me having to remember to do it.For someone like myself, i don't understand removing an automatic feature for a manual one.Just keep it the way it is.Also not everyone will remember to share the video after they've liked, which removes some of the little help smaller channels (Djinn Gaming) like myself get.

Well, who needed more evidence that Alphabet/Google is socially clueless? You guys have fumbled at every single attempt to build social networks or even socially-friendly features into your products.

I seriously used to love Google and was excited by new things coming out of this company. I was even a beta tester of your first Chromebook! And everything I could get my hands on. But now?

No, it makes me feel ill and ashamed to see what this CORPORATION has done in the last few years.

You suck now. You could have done so much better.

I barely got views as it is and now you are removing the automatic posting to Twitter how is this supposed to make this site better. Updates are usually supposed to make a site better which is true unless it's Youtube everytime Youtube updates it seems it actually makes the site worse

Social media is dying.  It is full of wickedness as others have vaguely eluded to.  If it were not for Donald Trump being elected then twitter would still be an also ran.  Facebook is a joke.  There is nothing there.  Google+ is weak and getting weaker by the day.  It was the easy way to have a website.  But, better websites have been developed and more people will be moving to them.  Then an ad-plug on this YouTube will be all this home for scammers will be good for.

My question here is why? I know you gather information from majority users but are you gonna ignore those who like it that way? It is not like they can't turn off the automatic tweeting. If they don't like it, they have an option to turn off it but by taking those options out, those who like it can't do anything, unless coding themselves to make it automatically which requires both server and some skill.

why take it away, it makes  no sense, peeps who don't do it manual won't go and do this, as to they have to think about what hash tags to use when posting so it simply will lower posting utube vids to twitter etc

Taking away the auto when you can customize the message while auto-sharing directly seems out of step, it just means remembering to do one more post vs. setting it up right away.
