Youtube imposed new restrictions on users: "To be able to live stream on mobile, your channel will need to have at least 1,000 subscribers."
Why Youtube did that? What is the reason to limit creators that are using mobile devices?

Can people with less than 1000 subscribers go live on an iPad? Thanks.

Terrible new policy. I really enjoyed live streaming from my small channel and interacting with my subscribers.  I am now looking for other options.

This is unfair policy for us small youtubers. I usually rely on my mobile phone to interact with my subscribers and greet them live.

Very disappointing to change policies. I was live streaming soccer games for families of high school players who live out of town and out of state, and after live streaming for half the season, YouTube changed the rules to disallow it.

Lot of people are disappointed with YouTube as a result of this type of midstream decision. Very disappointing.

This new policy is horrible. I use mobile live-streaming literally for my sons baseball games and no longer can do that.

When does this take effect?  I use YT to stream sporting events for my kids teams and not even close to 1000 subs.  Heck not sure i hit 10 yet :)

I also believe they should look at the number of videos on your channel as well as how often you post.  This should allow people with under 1000 to stream live

This is unreasonable. I livestream pretty much for all my videos because the livestream will actually upload. I make content for my friends but I don’t understand why you would do this

We were broadcasting the Sunday Mass in our parish for almost a year now, using a retired mobile phone in a fixed setup. Now we'll have to look for a more complex and more expensive setup. When I was looking for possible solutions a year ago, that only rely on mobile, Youtube and Facebook were the only ones. We choose for Youtube because it doesn't depend on social media accounts. Is the Facebook "go live" option now the only comparable solution that remains? Seems like a stupid move from Google :(

This is a wretched move. It does nothing but stifle smaller channel growth and limit lives to the larger channels. It’s a money move plain and simple. Restrict as much as possible for all except the changes YouTube can get as money on. I have 345 subs and not looking at how to migrate my channel and subscribers to a new platform. Maybe pariscope for live stuff, which is 99%of what I do.

So small channels that 100% live stream are now cut off and will need to purchase equipment.

This may backfire on google as other platforms will rise up to fill these needs. The reason YouTube grew to such a humongous size was because of anyone who wanted to share video was able to do so.

Does that include GoPro live?

Google loves control (and also all your data) so they are not doing this because of any response to the tragedy at Christchurch. They are doing this for money and money only (and control).

Not a problem as it's their right to make money but let's not kid ourselves that Google is actually trying to do something good on moral grounds. Do they really think a response of "Creators who have less than 1,000 subscribers will still be able to live stream through desktop and webcam" is satisfactory? They know (because they have all our data) mobile is the only future in Live Streaming.

Hopefully Twitch realizes this as a huge opportunity and they don't fall for evil corp's real agenda here and that's control and money.

You can still live stream from mobile devices using other apps. If you go to your Livestream section in your Youtube Creator Studio, you can get the Streaming URL and Key to put in the App to allow live streaming.

I have also found that Streamlabs still works for live streaming.

This restriction does nothing to solve the made up problem. It only hurts people that use the streaming platform for people that like to stream events for family and friends that may wish to see the event.

I previously used live stream for recording and uploading at the same time.
I don't really need to live stream it to elsewhere.
Can google consider create a recording and uploading feature. Because uploading after recording is more time consuming.

Also, why don't google implement a live stream with limited connections like 10 connection for those accounts that doesn't have enough subscriptions?

Posting reply to this comment "You can still live stream from mobile devices using other apps."   Are we thinking that you could still use YouTube live through a third party app by providing your stream key?

I have to think that may be possible because I streamed all weekend live without issue doing it this way.  So using OBS via your cell phone may still work?

I have a livestream scheduled for tonight that I scheduled before the eligibility requirements changed. This is a scheduled work event and we have a number of followers RSVP'd to the event. We created our YouTube channel in part to host this event, so it's extremely new and does not have 1000 followers. Now due to this change, which I discovered completely by accident (ie. even though I have a livestream scheduled there was NO notice of this change) when looking up best practices for livestreaming on YouTube (I've done it on Facebook but never here), I am going to be unable to livestream the event and there is no way to alert the people who were planning to participate. Is there any workaround since I already had my livestream scheduled and approved?

@SE0101 I'm not sure what your agenda is for posting that "it's about Christchurch" and "violent content" on all the discussions threads related to this topic but it's really irresponsible of you to assume this is the case. If you are speaking for Google then you should be using a Google account to make this their official response.

For those that don't just follow along with this repeated nonsense, this is about money and control. Google has all the data they need and they know that accounts with <1000 subs either don't make them money and/or they don't conform to Google's hidden agenda and propaganda-making.

As for protecting themselves, the only thing they have to do is to not be evil and take the video down immediately, which I assume they already have in place. It took Facebook an astonishing 17 minutes but hopefully Google isn't that greedy and clueless to try to make a quick buck.

Fuck all yaw. You just make it worse. You would rather upset people who are just starting their channel. There is zero, ZERO REASON TO IMPOSE THIS. Madders in fact why don't you just do the same for computer right. Yeah because I'm going to buy a 2000 dollar laptop so I can suit your policy. And thank you I wanted to do this. Because we all know that your trash and you know what your doing and you do it anyways. You sell us out like you do small business. You favor there people who have been posting longer than us. But you won't change this because you have all the power. And you think you can just do whatever you want without thinking. And it's bullshit. So here's the hath reality. We are all pretty much saying FUCK YOU in the kindest way possible.
