Sharing updates & acknowledging feedback from Premium members

Hi!

We just announced our latest round of benefits for Premium members at the official YouTube Blog.  More details in the blog, but to quickly recap:
 
  • Jump Ahead gives you the ability to get to the content you care about faster with a double tap (see how it works here!) This feature is currently available on Android, and will come to iOS devices in the future too!
     
  • Shorts Picture-in-Picture on Android lets you use other apps while watching Shorts (details)
     
  • New experimental features at youtube.com/new lets you opt-in for early access to a new watch page layout, smart downloads of Shorts and a conversational AI tool before everyone else! (details)
     
We also wanted to acknowledge all the great feedback (thanks so much!) that we’ve received from you in the past year. The Premium team appreciates hearing from members directly, and in the spirit of being more transparent with all of you, we’re also sharing an update - where possible - for some of your top requests! So here goes…
 
We’re improving the download experience by addressing device storage related issues. ThisThis will continue to be an evergreen workstream for the YouTube team, and we’ll keep you updated on our progress when we can!
 
We want members to enjoy a high quality watch experience on YouTube and currently offer 4K video quality available on phones, tablets, TVs & the web and 8K video quality on TVs, web & VR headsets. Last year we also launched 1080p Premium Enhanced Bitrate to our members, which provides more information per pixel and results in a higher quality viewing experience.
 
We want to give members more control when watching on YouTube. We hear your feedback over losing queues and accessing Premium controls and are actively working to improve this experience. We’re working on making Premium controls more accessible (so it takes fewer clicks to get you to them!) and are also addressing an issue where the Continue watching feature doesn’t apply to queuing (and only applies to videos you’re watching).
 
We’re committed to bringing members more plan options by expanding our existing offers to more regions, while also introducing new plans and exploring ways for you to share your benefits with friends in the future!

The number one thing you need to consider is dumping YouTube music and just have a straight YT premium tier. Especially in florida, the new price hike pushed it out of my range just to remove ads, but I would definitely consider if it was pulled off just by itself.  From someone who uses premium high rest streaming services, lo-res YouTube music is useless for me.

Just make it 5.99 without advertising. Leave out all the functions (maybe background playback) otherwise no music download etc...

Most recent videos added to Watch Later list should be more easily accessible from TV app home screen. We get it that the algo is important to YT but why does it take 8+ clicks (nav > Home > Movies & TV > Podcasts > Gaming > Library > History > Watch Later) to get to the videos we've already added after they've been suggested by the algo? Watch Later is a key factor in determining viewer intent, so it should be pinned or repositioned more prominently.  

Also, love what you're working on with queues!

The music "app" is absolutely worthless and comically bad for whoever remembers GPM (or is on an actual music service). The right thing to to would be to stop bundling it with Premium, but you probably won't, as it will expose just what a massive fraud Lyor Cohen is.

I'm amazed at separating YouTube music and YouTube video search results is not a top priority. If I subscribe to an artist on YouTube music that does not mean that I also want to subscribe to them on YouTube videos. And on top of that searches on YouTube music shouldn't appear in YouTube video either. They should be treated separately.

I would like to be able to watch members streams on the background. There are lots of creators who make member's content with a focus on audio, or that the video has little to nothing happening. On these cases, it would be great to put the app on my phone or tablet on the background and browse other things, or even turn off the screen to save battery, keeping only the audio playing. But the YouTube app stops the stream immediately if this happens. Please, let us have member's stream on background.
