Many of you have shared your concerns with us over the past few days about the Momo Challenge--we’ve been paying close attention to these reports. After much review, we’ve seen no recent evidence of videos promoting the Momo Challenge on YouTube. Videos encouraging harmful and dangerous challenges are clearly against our policies, the Momo challenge included. Despite press reports of this challenge surfacing, we haven’t had any recent links flagged or shared with us from YouTube that violate our Community Guidelines.

It’s important to note that we do allow creators to discuss, report, or educate people on the Momo challenge/character on YouTube. We’ve seen screenshots of videos and/or thumbnails with this character in them. To clarify, it is not against our policies to include the image of the Momo character on YouTube; that being said, this image is not allowed on the YouTube Kids app and we’re putting safeguards in place to exclude it from content on YouTube Kids.

If you see someone promoting any challenge with an inherent risk or harm, please flag it to us immediately.

This is such BS! How about all the kids who were asked if they have seen this character and all answers were YES! Its sad to know YouTube wouldn't take this more serious and out their all to stop it but chose to do nothing just so they don't lose people but what about innocent children who get brainwashed or may loose themselves or others!!! There are numerous of my own friends who asked their children about it and answers where yes and actually witnessed it ! This is unbelievable !

When are you guys going to work on the pedophilia ring that is taking place in the comments section on the content containing minor children? Time stamping, child porn trade, and illicit comments aren’t enough? Lets look into this please.

You do know that this was a thing back in September last year right? It’s February just stop worrying about it. The Momo character is a sculpture that someone took a picture of and edited it. Now fuck off and worry about something important for once. This is old news. Also you need to text the AI bot on an app. Now grow a pair of a balls and get a life.

PARENTS!!
Please go into your kids video logs and look through them! They are not reported because we are not reporting them! We need to teach our kids to show us when something feels off and show them how to “flag” these videos.

I sat dow. With my child and she told me about videos that were freaky and didn’t like how they made her feel.

It’s my job remove and flag these videos DAILY! Please let’s share a list of channels with disturbing content! Sharing my list shortly.

There is soooo much more to this than the Momo issue. My son is 5 now and used to watch YouTube kids on our phone or iPad. One day I started seeing these weird recommended videos of Peppa Pig with the characters getting killed, Barbie being kidnapped and locked in the basement with nude pictures on the wall, numerous kidnapping videos, characters crying and getting hurt. Some serious WEIRD CRAP! I flagged every video and cleared the history to reset the recommended videos. It still kept happening. Mind you this is on the STRICTEST setting! YouTube is banned in our home. When I told people about this they acted like I was overreacting. No. This has been a problem since day 1. YouTube IS NOT CAPABLE OF STOPPING THIS IN A TIMELY MANNER. I recently saw more articles surfacing about this, so obviously it hasn’t stopped!

The best thing you could do for this situation is not post about it. You're only contributing to the mass hysteria about an OLD thing that was made a terminable offense on YouTube a LONG time ago. Don't re-post that image, don't scream at YouTube for doing nothing - especially if you haven't actually SEEN it.

If you SEE it, report it. YouTube depends on people using the report tools to draw attention to violating content. There is sufficient content being uploaded that the heat death of the universe would occur before every video could be reviewed and vetted by YouTube staff (I've done the math, assuming a staff of 10,000 chained to their desks 24/7 watching eight videos simultaneously).

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as parents to monitor and control the content that your children are viewing. Step up to the plate and start doing your jobs - it's NOT YouTube's responsibility to raise your children.

Some parents of many children trust in YouTube to NOT have such Inappropriate videos ESPEICALLY YouTube kids !!!! Now a days it's all about technology and young kids know how to use the phone better then a 20 year old would or us as parents ! All parents do supervise the videos  and what they watch who wouldn't but having a busy schedule or more children to take care off Or being a single mom or dad you don't have the time to sit and watch with your kid! As parents we all trust in YouTube to have educated videos or just fun and enjoyable ones and for us to choose them for our kids ! But no there are mix messages and harmful things hidden in them ! I'm 100 percent sure if any parent heard anything about killing some one or whatever the case is on the phone their child was watching they would immediately report it but if there is a nice song in the background but the the role play is someone stabbing someone who would know you would think it's a good video unless a child tells you about! Never judge a parent until you know and have been in anyone shoes don't judge and say supervise your kids when that has nothing to do about this situation if YouTube has people who watch videos before the post them up!

It is parents responsibility to monitor what kids are watching, BUT if you put on a show or game for your child and then halfway through it switches to this sick perversion then that is not all on the parent. As a mother I know that it is difficult to watch your kid 24/7 and parents are not perfect. If I put on a show and then go cook for 10 minutes before coming back to check on my kid....then that leaves just enough time for something like this to happen. My child is not allowed on YouTube nor do I allow for him to have an Ipad. People are sick out here in the world and parents should be the first line of defense, but YouTube needs to take these things more than just serious and be another line of defense on YouTube kids.
There needs to be stricter guidelines and more eyes watching out for things like this. Even if it has been handled now, I do not like the way YouTube handled it because it seemed very nonchalant on their part. Although it is not YouTube's responsibility to raise our children, our children are impressionable and it is scary to think that someone so sick and twisted would do something like this.

I see this incident as the glass being half full because it sparks conversations among parents and helps us be more vigilant with our children and more aware. As parents we can get complacent....We are human beings and we are not perfect.  It doesn't matter who's fault it is, what matters is that the issue is taken care of swiftly and that procedures are put in place so that it does not happen again. It takes a village to raise children and it is all of our responsibilities to keep our future safe because there are a lot of scumbags out here.

The issue is, though, that YouTube has never been a place for children. Neither is the internet. People were quite capable of raising their kids before the internet existed. Letting your kid play on the internet (or even on YouTube kids) unsupervised is akin to leaving them in the broom closet where you keep all the cleaning chemicals.

Find other ways to occupy your kids that don't involve the internet.

This is common sense why are people so stupid. Imagine what the future will be like. Obviously trying to kill yourself is NOT GOOD and it will literally KILL YOU. Jeez it's not that hard, we shouldn't have to be told that if we set ourself on fire or something it will kill us.

It is incredibly concerning that you are dismissing what so many parents and kids know is the truth. Does a child covering their ears and saying “mom don’t say that name!!” when confronted, and going on to tell their mom how they saw Momo and what “she” said to them not proof enough. We all know you KNOW this is happening. You are more concerned with making sure people don’t delete your app and boycott than you are seriously addressing this with honesty. Also, very concerning that you didn’t address the search setting within the app that is allowing these videos to come into the kids’ app.

Well according to what I understand it pops up in the middle of the video, so you as a parent have to watch kid videos with your kids account to maybe discover it. Youtube deny that this is crazy. They just have a security hole and they don't know what to do about it so they say we can't find any evidence? What do you think kids and adults are making this up. We will never see this unless we tap into their accounts and watch videos like they do.

I have personally seen Momo in youtube kids. And I asked my 6 year old if she has seen a video of Momo and she said yes. She was so terrified that she started hiding dolls that had large eyes since it resembled momo. SO you going to tell me there is no evidence?

Please DO NOT turn this around on the parents. I have witnessed it happen.  It DOES NOT matter if you block it on either YouTube or YouTube Kids, it still gets through and YouTube knows it!  And if they don't then shame on them for "not knowing" what goes on (on their own site)!  I find it hard to believe that a company of YouTube's size, lacks the proper security to do something about this.  I won't buy it.  I also feel like my child has been violated.  The thought that this has happened to her, as well as other innocent children, sickens me.

And for the record...

This is not related to the Momo Challenge, whether that be the latest "craze" or not.  This has been happening for quite some time and it goes much much deeper than everyone thinks.  When my child's behavior changed DRASTICALLY each time she was on YouTube or YouTube Kids, I took notice and immediately started blocking things.  BUT when my child is hysterical, shaking and crying in my arms because I watched as one of those videos happened to bypass (what I thought was blocked) and the mere question of "what are you watching" makes her run and hide - that's when I say enough.

It just happened here moments ago and i am getting a lawyer cause and suing you need to shut your app down till you can get it under control. To even still have your app up to view videos is down right disturbing. You made an app to have kids watch cute innocent videos, yet they are being scared shit less, crying, screaming and have night terrors. My 5 year old was just watching some foreign video and screamed bloody murder now she wont even let me go! I will be contacting a lawyer and suing the shit out of you for not taking this app down! You need to get your shit together before the rest of the world does the same thing! You can do better YOUTUBE! I'm so furious right now! My best friend just had it happen to her daughter on some peppa pig videos as well less then a half hour ago. So much for having it under control! We should need to educate our innocent 5 years old even younger children that some sick fucking bastard(s) some where in this world want to scare you into thinking your going to die or your parents are going to die. My child is crying thinking they know where she lives and they are going to hurt us! You and your team can rot in hell right with who ever is behind this bull shit momo!

I am deleting your app from all our devices as did not realise you are so uninterested in safe guarding not only children but vulnerable young adults to, as so many others you only seem to care about the monetary profit you make not your consumer! I find it unbelievable that in this day and age, with so many belatent vile people in the world that you do not have stricter screening if all video uploads to your site and until you take some responsibility for this will not be using your app.

YouTube should put a bounty out for these types of videos and those depicting other serious violations to the policy. It doesn't have to be much but get your community involved. They need to be making every attempt to prosecute the people making these types of violations.

This evil character is a “pop up” during children’s videos! YOU TUBE, get your head out of your rich ass!! It’s not a momo “challenge”!!! My 4 year old was exposed to her yesterday repeatedly. This sick witch told my daughter to be naughty forever, to throw things, to hit people. Before I could catch it, she had spent quite a bit of pop up time programming my child. I’m not ok with that, and neither are the rest of the parents having to counteract the affects. You better figure out how to stop this invasion. I have deleted your app from 4 devices tonight. If you’re not going to get control of this, we parents will take care of it by awareness for others to do the same starting now. Fix this! Now!!

@gadgetboy I literally know moms that questioned their kids last night and this morning and have had AWFUL days today because of what they found out from their kids. This is REAL. I don’t need a link on the internet to prove what I know is true when I had 10 parents in 12 hours tell me they talked to their kids and were appalled. Seriously, stop insulting everyone’s intelligence. I have no reason to lie, I don’t hate YouTube or google I use google every damn day and hope they can figure this out but I’m a security professional and a parent who gives a shit. I also know someone who works at google who knows the truth so kindly buzz off.

Maybe you shouldn’t  let your child watch YouTube. The app is rated 17 and up and is not for little kids. I would only recommend letting your child watch YouTube at such a young age if they understand that anything on the Internet could be fake. Maybe take that into consideration.

Don't fib. You don't know anyone from google who "knows the truth". Also, as I have repeatedly said, without links, your words are meaningless. Action cannot be taken if you don't share links to these videos you've supposedly found.

You're also not a security professional, or you'd be quite familiar with how YouTube's reactionary reporting system works. If you don't share a link or use the reporting tool, action cannot be taken. It's getting tiring having to explain this to every person that jumps on this bandwagon.

So, back your claims up with some PROOF, or - in your own words - kindly buzz off and stop contributing to the hysteria.
