YouTube Video Player Updates: Most Replayed, Video Chapters, Single Loop & More

Announcement
Hi everyone!

We want to make it easy for you to find content that you’re most interested in watching, so today we’re launching a graph that you can use to watch the most replayed parts of a video. We also have some other handy features that we want to make sure you know about, so we’ll recap those here too. Try them out and let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • Easily watch the most replayed parts of a video: while seeking, you’ll see a graph showing you the most frequently replayed parts of the video. If the graph is high, then that part of the video has been replayed often. You can use the graph to quickly find and watch those moments. Note: you may have tested this as part of an experiment, and now we’re excited to bring the feature to viewers on desktop and mobile today!

  • Get to a specific section with video chapters (including new auto-generated chapters), now on Smart TVs and gaming consoles: video chapters, which launched in May 2020, break up videos into sections, allowing you to jump forward to a specific section of a video, easily rewatch just that portion, and more. So far, video chapters have been added to 20 million videos, and we’re excited that they can now be auto-generated and viewed across more devices.

✨ Tips for Creators✨ If you’re a creator, consider adding chapters to your own videos, especially longer videos. Our experiment data from May 2020 shows that, for videos where creators added chapter information, displaying chapters in the player increases the average watchtime of these videos.

  • Put an individual video on endless repeat with Single Loop: you can now use the single loop feature to keep one video playing for as long as you want! Learn more about looping videos in our Help Center.

  • Skip to the parts of videos that you’re most interested in watching: Soon we’ll be testing a new and easier way for you to seek to the exact moment in a video that you want to watch. If you’re a Premium member, keep an eye out for this on youtube.com/new. In the meantime, you can still long press anywhere on the player to start seeking, or double tap with 2 fingers to skip between video chapters -- getting right to the specific part of the video that you’re eager to watch!

  • Use new full screen mode features in the YouTube app: when you’re watching in full screen on the app, a new panel will display information about the video such as video description, video chapters, comments, etc. We’ve also added new quick action buttons, so you can like, dislike, comment, share, or add a video to a playlist -- directly from full screen mode!

We hope these updates make it easier for you to discover and watch your favorite parts of a video and look forward to hearing what you think.

I just newly encountered the "Most Replayed" video progress bar feature while listening to a certain TV show's theme, and I personally find this weird to put it mildly. While I'm aware that some may find this new feature to be beneficial I just hope that users who dislike the feature be given the chance to switch it off.

Hello,
Please allow the ability to disable this feature.
I am hard of seeing and this is causing me major issues with visibility  / use of the seek bar. It just was enabled for me randomly last week, and I do not see any area to disable it.

If you cannot disable it, please allow me the option to customize the colors of my seek bar. Ideally, the seek bar colors would align with my operating system's high contrast theme, but any ability to customize would be nice.

I also find it is disruptive when trying to look at details of a video near the overlay, for instance, on educational videos with a lot of text. So, such customization (ability to disable, or disable by default) would not only help people with disabilities such as myself but also children or people who are easily distracted.

youtube team - please follow up on this if you are serious about accessibility.

I don't like this feature at all and would like to have the option to turn it off permanently. Get rid of the feature or allow your users to turn it off themselves.

So YouTube can cram in more advertising dollars per user session.  Cool, so can I turn this off?
The new auto-mini view I can't turn off.  Can't turn off autoplay.  Can't make playback not override forward/back transport or scrubbing.  Can't turn off cards and annotations.  Can't default to HD or theatre mode.

I literally have FIVE chrome extensions running dozens of scripts to block all the garbage youtube "innovations" of the past five years.  Meanwhile it takes twenty minutes for it to send a simple video to my smart phone.

When is the nonsense going to stop?  When are you going to allow people to turn off your helpers that only help you?  I know you people think you know better than everyone else, but demonstratably you don't.

How ironic in the age of the world with the best tech and most money in the hands of those developing the tech, that we suffer some of the most godawful design decisions humanly possible.

To @Dermacrosis

Apologies for the belated answer, but let me make two things clear: I was referring to the "Most replayed" graph feature (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7174115), NOT the mini-player or autoplay. And no, I do not support or condone facism. Please get your political nonsense elsewhere, and do learn some Internet manners.
