Here’s a roundup of product improvements and bug fixes from the previous month! Reminder: these are just desktop updates from the team responsible for the youtube.com desktop experience (though they don’t work on everything on desktop – for example, other teams are responsible for YouTube Studio, monetization features, recommendations, etc.)
Collection of improvements to playlists:
We made a bunch of improvements to the autoplay feature so that it works the same for playlists as it would for individual videos. For instance, videos would stop playing when the end of a playlist was reached – this doesn’t happen anymore! Now, on reaching the end of a playlist you will automatically be shown related videos and the autoplay toggle works the way it’s supposed to – yay! As a reminder, if you’d rather watch the same videos in your playlist over and over, you can always hit the “loop” button.
Additionally, you should now be able to add videos to a “Watch Later” playlist, even if you don’t have a public profile on desktop. Previously you could do this only on mobile.
We launched Dark Theme with the intention of making your background dark throughout your entire YouTube experience. Our bad, for we missed a couple of spots like the “account settings” page – so we fixed that!
Our designers did a pass for UI consistency and introduced a couple of fixes across channel pages, playlist panels and the watch page for more consistency across desktop.
We’ve improved the contrast ratio for icons in the left navigation guide by making them a little darker in comparison to its background. We hope this helps make your desktop experience more pleasant!
Previously when you clicked on the “search” icon within a channel page, the cursor would not already be shown in the text box. This is now fixed and there are fewer steps keeping you from watching your favorite creator videos!
