There is ONLY children's content viewed on the account. And yet, while scrolling through the Android app for pj masks videos specifically, my 6 yo has just been given an advert for a sex dating app.

Do not tell me that is acceptable. Do not tell me "I need to be more careful on what he watches." We sit an choose videos together to make sure he's seeing only content I approve of. I can't do anything about your ads, expecting users to flag them after a child has already been exposed to them is not only irresponsible on the part of YT, it's unreasonable to assume this makes any difference to the problem that's presented itself by your faux ignorance.

When you sit together to choose the videos is it on your account? It better be as a 6 year old is not allowed to have one. In which case the ad is appropriate to your age. Try using YT when signed out with your kid. I see ads, the type you mention is one, that my neighbours teenage grandkid never sees.

You may want to look into the youtube kids app if it is available where you are as that shows no ads and is designed specifically for young children.

Were you actually able to keep a straight face posting that JD? Given the posts we have both seen over the time we have both been on the forums along the same lines, even I wouldn't have the brass neck to keep a straight face posting that. :-D

My understanding of the ads guidelines is that such an ad would not be acceptable for YouTube, have you reported it? You can report inapproriate ads here: https://support.google.com/google-ads/contact/vio_other_aw_policy

Eric they are considered to be dating apps, Grindr, Scruff, Tindr etc. The fact some use them to arrange hook ups is different form their own intended creation, in the same way craigslist was meant as a way to advertise stuff for sale, rent etc in the way papers had such pages but people started using it for hook ups. The ads were approved by YT in the first place and only appear on those whose accounts are of age.

Now how about you learn more about this side of things before jumping in. Next thing you will be saying they should be banned from Google play, and as long as they are on there the ads will be accepted, given the rules of that are stricter than the advertising rules.

"If every parent reported content inappropriate for their kids it would be a larger issue than it is because everyone lets their kids use YouTube"

Not really as they do have the age limit they set as a defense. Instead it will come down to people blaming parents who are to lazy to do their job and thing YT is a free baby sitter. I know a few people would would say that and they are parents, you should hear the arguments between her and her youngest (10) over him not having a YT channel when his older siblings (14 and 16) can. In some countries it is 16 before they can have one.

"so I assume there are parents who are either blissfully unaware, or who don't mind their kids seeing PG-13 content."

It is likely both, given how many parents I have seen buy age rated games for their young children, one game shop I use will not sell them to an adult when they are accompanied by a child now, they got sick of the other parent kicking off at the staff even though before that change they highlighted that the game was not suitable for kids under the age.

Then there are the ones I know of who stopped their kids playing certain apps when they bothered to look into them and decided they weren't suitable for their kids, some even have age ratings too.

"BTW, I like it when someone suggests something "to do," whether it will eventually prove useful or not a lot of people are looking for exactly that type of answer."

We both mentioned the kids app as that is the easiest and free thing to do if it is where they live. The other option, we can openly advise, costs money and I am not sure that is one they would like to se, or may kisk off if advised that it is an option.

The advertising is just inappropriate.  I'm not anti ads, nor a child,  but I constantly get sex ads on my work phone. I don't look at sex stuff, I'm not in the target market,  but I constantly get ads of women being objectified and men looking to score. No matter how often I report ads as being offensive,  I keep getting them. I feel like I'm being trolled by google.

Great work, google.  All the money and data in the world and this is the best you could do.

m nf what do you mean by "sex ads"? Ads for dating apps/sites are not sex ads despite the fact everyone I know calls them shag apps/sites they were not designed as such.

JD I have seen ads for sating apps/sites though I wouldn't call them sex ads though some of the more prudish may.

I don't normally it is only when something new appears or "why the hell am I seeing that advert" does it register with me. An example an advert for mouse mattresses (panty liners/feminine hygiene products) when my sex is male and that is part of the info I gave them when I set up my account. :-)

I dont understand this either, i keep getting ads saying "find single Asian women", or advertising Ukrainian singles. STOP! i dont want to see this and i think its mildly inappropriate. If harrassment is banned on youtube, this should be too, go somewhere else to find dates. I also dont know why Dermacrosis is defending google so much, apparently Dermacrosis wants to find singles.

p.s. youtube kids is meant to be from ages 4-12, so should a lets say 13 year old be able to see pg-13 content without being advertised a DATING APP,

p.s.s. I am fine with people being able to post whatever content they want, i am just against the idea that youtube if forcing these ads on videos that have nothing to do with it. Bassically a dating app should never ever be on a video for PJ masks (a cartoon for 4 year olds)
