Video chapters break up a video into sections, each with an individual preview. Video chapters add info and context to each portion of the video and let you easily rewatch different parts of the video. Creators can add their own video chapters for each uploaded video or rely on automatic video chapters. Chapters may appear in the transcripts. Creators can always opt out of automatic video chapters in YouTube Studio.
How to Add Chapters to Your Videos Using Timestamps
To add your own video chapters:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- From the left menu, select Content.
- Click the video that you'd like to edit.
- In the Description, add a list of timestamps and titles.
- Make sure that the first timestamp that you list starts with 00:00.
- Your video should have at least three timestamps listed in ascending order.
- The minimum length for video chapters is 10 seconds.
5. Click SAVE.
To use automatic video chapters:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- From the left menu, select Content.
- Click the video that you'd like to edit.
- Click SHOW MORE and under Automatic chapters select 'Allow automatic chapters and key moments (when available and eligible)'. By default, this box will be ticked for all new uploads. You can also allow automatic video chapters in bulk.

- Click the video that you'd like to edit.
- Click SHOW MORE, and under Automatic chapters, unselect 'Allow automatic chapters (when available and eligible)'.

- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Click Settings .
- Click Upload defaults.
- Click Advanced settings, untick 'Allow automatic chapters (when available and eligible)'.
- Click SAVE.
