Manage restrictions on your content

Restrictions may prevent viewers from watching your videos or seeing your posts. Restrictions could also impact video monetisation when you're in the YouTube Partner Programme. For example, a video might not be appropriate for viewers under 18 or there could be a pending copyright issue.

Check restrictions on your video

To check if restrictions are impacting your video:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left menu, select Content .
  3. In the Videos tab, find your video in the list and check the 'Restrictions' column. To filter your videos, click Filter and select your filter(s):
    • Age restriction: Viewers over 18 or none.
    • Copyright: Content ID claims or copyright strikes.
    • Made for Kids: Made for Kids (set by you), Set to Made for Kids (by YouTube), Not Made for Kids or Not set.

If a restriction is listed, you can hover over it to learn more and request a review.

Check restrictions on your post

To check if restrictions are impacting your post:

  2. From the left menu, select Content.
  3. In the Posts tab, find your post in the list and check the 'Restrictions' column.

If a restriction is listed, you can hover over it to learn more and request a review.

Made for Kids

If your content is set as Made for Kids, we'll restrict certain features to comply with applicable laws.

Ad suitability

If you're in the YouTube Partner Programme and your content is identified as not suitable for most advertisers, your video may run limited or no ads.

If your video was prevented from being uploaded:

Where can I get more info about why my video was prevented from being uploaded?

You can find more info in YouTube Studio:

  1. From the left menu, select Content.

In the Restrictions column, hover over Terms and policies. The pop-up will tell you that your video could not be uploaded as it contains a copy of content from a video that we've previously removed due to a copyright removal request. It will show you who issued the copyright removal request, when the request was received and the title of the claimant's copyright-protected work.

We'll also send you an email when your video is prevented from being uploaded, which will include this info.
