Review & reply to comments

Interacting with comments is a great way to maintain a healthy community on your channel. Learn more about how to moderate comments.

Manage comments

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left menu, select Community .
  3. Choose the tab that you’d like to review:
    • Published: Comments that everyone can see.
    • Held: Comments that are held based on your settings and comments that are automatically held by YouTube as likely spam.

You can use the filter bar at the top of each tab to filter the comments you see. You can filter by search, questions, response status, and more.

Eligible creators will see "Comments & Mentions" in Studio on their computer. Learn more about mentions eligibility.

Search comments by topic or meaning

Note: This feature is only available on YouTube Studio on your computer.

To help you quickly find comments to moderate or engage with, use the Search tool from the filter options at the top. This tool uses AI to understand the meaning and intent behind comments, going beyond matching search keywords.

  • Search by topic: Type a query up to 100 characters to find comments broadly related to a subject or theme, such as “questions about my equipment" or "compliments about video editing.”

  • Use a suggested topic: Select suggestions to find comments related to common themes, such as "Excitement and enthusiasm" or "Negative feedback.”
  • Find similar comments: Click the three-dot menu on any published comment and select Find similar comments to find other comments with a similar topic or meaning.

Note: This search tool is for finding comments from the last 90 days. You must still use existing moderation options to remove, report, hide comments or users, or to engage with users, such as with likes or replies. You cannot search for comments from specific users, and your own comments on your channel are not included in the search results. You may lose access to this tool if you are found to violate YouTube’s Community Guidelines.

Get summary from comments

You can get a summary of insights from your video’s comment section in YouTube Studio. Comment summaries use artificial intelligence (AI) to give you a summary of how viewers responded to your content and highlight feedback that creators can use for future videos.

To get a comment summary:

  1. Open YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left menu, select Community .
  3. Go to the comments for a video you want insights for.
  4. From the top of your comments, click Get summary. Your comment summary will then appear.
    • Note: If you don’t have a Get summary option, the video may have too few comments.

FAQs

Are viewers told when I heart, like, dislike, pin, or reply to their comment?

If you heart, pin, or reply to a comment, the commenter may get a notification that you responded, depending on their notification settings.
Likes and dislikes are anonymous. If you like a comment, the commenter may get a notification that says, “Someone liked your comment." Viewers don’t get a notification when you dislike their comment.

How do I unpin a comment?

If you pinned a comment to the top of the watch page, but don’t want it there anymore, you can unpin it. Next to the comment, select More and then Unpin.
You can also pin a different comment, which will unpin the previous one.

How are comment topics summarized, and can I moderate them?

Comment topics use Google-owned AI models to organize and summarize comments, without human review, on YouTube videos with large comment sections. Topics are only created when there are enough comments to represent a theme.

There isn’t an option to opt out of comment topics. If you remove the comments that show up under a specific topic, the topic will be removed.

Topics won’t be created from comments that are held, contain blocked words, or are from hidden users.

To give feedback on comment topics:

  1. Open the comments section of a video on the YouTube app.
  2. Tap Topics .
  3. Tap More .
  4. Tap Send feedback.
