You can find a list of assets you own that have encountered conflicting assertions of ownership on the YouTube platform in your Content Manager “Issues” list. They’ll be labeled as “Ownership conflicts”. Asset ownership conflicts arise when multiple content owners claim asset ownership percentages that add up to over 100% in a specific territory.
What happens when an asset has ownership conflicts?
- You'll see the conflict surfaced in your Content Manager “Issues” list for review.
- In most cases, active monetization claims that have been made based on the asset’s reference material are postponed until the conflict is resolved.
- If different content owners have specified different match policies (track, monetize, block) for the same asset’s claims, the most restrictive policy is applied.
If you're monetizing claimed videos based on an asset that is in ownership conflict you may lose revenue until the conflict is resolved.
To manage ownership conflicts in your “Issues” queue, you can click the header for each column to sort by expiration, title, created on date, affected (daily) views, number of claimed videos, or number of claimed videos affected.
Resolve asset ownership conflicts
When you select an ownership conflict, you’ll see a detailed view with general information about the other owners asserting ownership in overlapping territories with you. Here’s how to make sure the appropriate ownership information is designated for your asset:
- Click on the asset title if you’d like to pull up the asset detail page.
- In the table on the ownership conflict page, you’ll be able to see a breakdown of each owner’s territorial assertions that conflict with your own, sorted by affected daily views. Click the checkbox next to each territory that you’d like to edit.
- If you've incorrectly or mistakenly asserted territorial ownership for an asset, click Remove ownership to to edit your ownership information.
- If you've confirmed the accuracy of your designated ownership, you can Request ownership from the other owner. You can select this option on up to 10 existing ownership conflicts per day, with an optional note to the other content owner with whom you are in conflict. Once requested, the other owner will see an “Ownership transfer” action item appear in their Content Manager “Issues” list.
- If you have a question for the other content owner(s) with whom you are in conflict, click the envelope icon in the table header to contact them. This will pull up a pre-populated, editable contact form addressed to them, allowing you to easily and quickly communicate to resolve the conflict.
