Use voice search to find videos.

Learn how to manage your audio recordings from YouTube voice search.

Start a voice search

  1. Sign in to YouTube.
  2. Tap Search .
  3. Tap Mic .
  4. Allow access to the microphone.
  5. Recording will start immediately.
  6. Tap  to end the recording.
  7. Tap X to go back or cancel the recording.

Change microphone permissions

  1. If you have previously denied microphone permissions, you may see a request to allow microphone permissions via your phone settings.
  2. Click the prompt to go to phone settings, or access Android Settings from your Android phone’s general menu.
  3. From Android settings, click Apps and Notifications.
  4. Find the YouTube app and click YouTube settings.
  5. Click Permissions.
  6. Switch the microphone permission to On.
  7. Go back to the YouTube app, and you should now be able to search with your voice.

More ways you can use your voice

These commands are currently available only on Android, and some may not be available in every language.

Song search

You can search YouTube using sound. By humming or recording a song that’s currently being played, you can find related YouTube videos, Shorts, and official music content. 
To start a song search: 
  1. Sign in to YouTube.
  2. Tap Search .
  3. Tap Mic .
  4. Allow access to the microphone.
  5. Tap Song .
  6. Recording will start immediately and end once the song is identified. 
  7. Tap X to go back or cancel the recording.
Note: If the song can’t be identified, you’ll get an error message letting you know a match wasn’t found.

Watch/listen to specific content

  • Go directly to a random music track or video: “Play some music.”
  • Play a video or music track from a specific artist: “Play songs from Ariana Grande.”
  • Play a video or music track from a specific genre: “Play heavy metal music.”
  • Play a video or music track based on how you’re feeling: “Play relaxing music.”
  • Play a video from your recommended list: “Play recommended videos.”

Go to a specific page on YouTube

  • Go to subscriptions: “Show me my subscriptions”, also “What's new from my subscriptions?”
  • Go to your watch history: “Show my watch history.”
  • Go to your library: ”Show me my library.”
  • Go to a creator’s recent uploads: ”Show me the latest videos from TeamYouTube.”
  • Go to related videos based on the current video that you’re watching: ”Show related videos.”
  • Get lucky with a new video: ”What’s on YouTube?”
